Northern and Central regions will be hot next week

VnExpressVnExpress14/05/2023

From Monday (May 15), the temperature in the North and Central regions is forecast to increase again, and by Tuesday it will start to get hot, with temperatures in Hanoi reaching 38 degrees Celsius.

Last week, the North had cool weather, with rain in many places, and Hanoi's temperature ranged from 23-29 degrees Celsius. The cause was the double impact of the late-season cold air mass and wind convergence at an altitude of 1,500-3,000 m.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from Monday, the low pressure area in the west will develop again, the temperature in the North will increase, and by mid-week it will be hot, with the highest temperature of 35 degrees Celsius or higher.

The American Accuweather website predicts that Hanoi will have temperatures of 25-32 degrees Celsius tomorrow, then gradually increase, reaching 27-38 degrees Celsius by mid-week. High points over 1,500 meters above sea level such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai) will fluctuate between 18-27 degrees Celsius next week.

Temperatures in the central region will rise rapidly next week due to the expansion of the low pressure area in the west. From Tuesday, the region will be 36-39 degrees Celsius, with many places above 40 degrees Celsius. The meteorological agency said that this heat wave is not as severe as the one from May 4-7.

In the South and Central Highlands next week, the southwest monsoon tends to be strong, thunderstorms will increase, concentrated in the evening. People need to be alert for tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Previously, on May 6, Hoi Xuan station (Thanh Hoa) recorded a temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius - the highest ever in Vietnam. A day later, Tuong Duong station (Nghe An) broke the record with a temperature of 44.2.

The meteorological agency forecasts that the average temperature in May nationwide will generally be 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the average of many years, with the Northwest being 1.5 degrees Celsius higher. El Nino is likely to appear in July and August, causing more intense heat and less storms.
