In late June, the Da River bank through Dan Quyen commune suffered serious landslides, affecting hundreds of meters of dike and threatening the lives and property of many households living along the Da River.

This landslide has been happening for a long time but recently it has been developing rapidly, causing dozens of hectares of alluvial land and crops to be swept away. The most serious landslide area is located on the riverbank in zones 13 and 14, Dan Quyen commune.

Specifically, the section from km32+800 to km33+400 in areas 13 and 14 has a landslide with a length of about 600m. The landslide is about 50m from the foot of the Hong Da dike, about 100m from houses and close to the foundation of the Trung Ha bridgehead, which is under construction and repair.

Ms. Le Huong Ly, Head of Zone 13, Dan Quyen Commune said: "The riverbank has eroded, sweeping away a large area of land and crops of the people. The eroded part has eaten into the mainland 70-80m, only about 50m from the dike."

According to Ms. Ly, in early June, the entire alluvial land suddenly had large, long cracks that slowly eroded, dragging thousands of banana trees down to the river. Some households suffered damages estimated at hundreds of millions of dong.

"We hope that the authorities will soon build embankments to resolve the serious landslide situation, so that people can feel secure in their production and stabilize their lives," Ms. Ly said.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thi, Vice Chairman of Dan Quyen Commune People's Committee, said: In the face of serious landslides in the area, the Commune People's Committee has announced on the public address system about the landslide, and has placed warning signs and ropes in dangerous areas, not allowing people to approach the landslide area. In addition, Dan Quyen Commune People's Committee has reported to the District People's Committee to propose to competent authorities to take remedial measures soon.

Previously, in June 2023, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province to deploy a project to urgently handle the landslide incident at the corresponding section from Km31+650 - Km31+950 of the Da River left dike (in areas 12 and 13 of Dan Quyen commune). The Provincial People's Committee requested relevant units to develop a treatment plan, the construction scale of the project is a foot embankment made of rubble stone about 300m long.

Most recently, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province requested Tien Nga Company Limited (under the administrative boundary of Dan Quyen commune) to temporarily suspend sand mining activities to monitor and accurately assess the impact of mining on the riverbed, banks and beaches.

At the same time, the province directed relevant agencies to review all landslide-prone and active landslide sites, thereby assessing and determining the extent and causes in order to take timely remedial measures.
