According to the meteorological agency, from mid-April, cold air activity will gradually weaken.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on April 5, the North will receive a cold air wave that is strengthened but weak and shifted to the East, so this area will have scattered rain and showers. In particular, the Northwest region will have moderate to heavy rain with rainfall of 15 - 30 mm, some places over 50 mm.
Localized heavy rain in the Northwest is forecast to last until April 7. Cold air will also cause temperatures in the North to drop slightly, making it cold at night and in the morning.
Notably, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a weather trend forecast for April 2025.
Regarding temperature trends, the average temperature in the North is generally at a level similar to the average of many years. The area from Da Nang to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands and the South has an average temperature generally higher than the average of many years from 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius.
Temperatures in the Thanh Hoa to Hue area are generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius lower than the average for the same period in many years.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa, Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, shared that in the first 10 days of April, cold air is likely to be more active than the average of many years, after that the cold air tends to gradually weaken.
Cold air is likely to cause strong winds and big waves, affecting maritime and fishing activities of fishermen at sea.
Previously, in March, there were 3 cold air waves on March 5, March 15 and March 29, causing 3 severe cold spells in the Northern region.
The cold spells are mainly concentrated in mountainous provinces; on March 30 alone, severe cold spells occurred in the North, with the lowest temperature in some places dropping below 10 degrees Celsius, such as in Dong Van (Ha Giang) 8.7 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc) 8.8 degrees Celsius, Mau Son (Lang Son) 4 degrees Celsius...
"In mid- and late April, heat waves tend to become stronger in the Northwest and Central regions; be on guard for severe heat waves. Heat waves will also continue to appear widely in the Southeast region and tend to increase in the Central Highlands and Southwest regions," said Mr. Hoa.
Previously, in the recent past, the Northwest, Central Highlands and Southern regions experienced localized heat waves. In particular, the Southeast provinces experienced a widespread heat wave from March 11 to 15 with the highest daily temperature commonly reaching 35 - 37 degrees Celsius, and even higher in some places.
Regarding rainfall trends, total rainfall nationwide in April was generally 5 - 15mm lower than the average of many years; in some places in the mountainous and midland areas of the North, the Southern Central Highlands and the Southeast, rainfall was 10 - 30mm higher than the average of many years in the same period.
"April is a transitional month, and there is a possibility of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and hail across the country," said Mr. Hoa.
