On May 28, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Xuong District Police initiated a case, prosecuted and temporarily detained Le Thi Nam Phuong, born in 1978 in Mat Son Street, Dong Ve Ward, Thanh Hoa City, for fraud and property appropriation.

Previously, on May 22, 2023, Quang Xuong District Police received a criminal complaint from a resident of Quang Nhan Commune, Quang Xuong District, accusing Le Thi Nam Phuong of fraud and appropriation of 180 million VND to "run a suspended sentence".
Immediately after receiving the report, Quang Xuong District Police quickly investigated, verified, and clarified the case. Through verification and collected documents and evidence, the Quang Xuong District Police Investigation Agency initially determined: Around February 2022, due to debt and need for personal expenses, when someone asked her to "run a case" for a relative who was arrested by the District Police for "gambling" and was on bail, Le Thi Nam Phuong agreed to help.
To carry out his actions, Phuong lied that he was working at the Provincial Court and asked the victim to transfer to him (through an intermediary) 180 million VND. Believing Phuong, the victim gave Phuong 180 million VND to "fix the case".
But it was not until October 2022, when the People's Court of Thanh Hoa province heard the appeal and upheld the 8-month prison sentence, that the victim realized he had been scammed.
After many times going to Phuong's house to ask for the money back but only receiving 25 million VND, in May 2023, after completing her prison sentence and returning to her hometown, the victim filed a complaint against Le Thi Nam Phuong's fraud to the police.
