Selecting promising tangerine varieties for development in Bac Kan province

The agency in charge of implementing the Project reported at the Conference

The project is chaired by the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute, with Engineer Ngo Hong Quang as the Project Manager. The project aims to evaluate the current status of tangerine varieties grown in Bac Kan, and select varieties with potential for multiplication and production. The specific objective is to select tangerine varieties with high yield and good quality suitable for the practical conditions of Bac Kan to be included in the testing model; to build a 2-hectare testing model of selected varieties using grafted trees.

The project will be implemented over a period of 48 months, from January 2021 to December 2024. However, due to the impact of storm Yagi and to have more time to monitor the growth and development of the new crop, the host agency proposed a 3-month extension. Over the implementation period, the project has built a testing model for the promising varieties of Bac Kan 1 and Bac Kan 2 tangerines on an area of ​​2 hectares with 1,035 trees, a density of 500 trees/ha, in Cho Moi and Bach Thong districts. Initial test results show that the experimental planting model of Bac Kan 1 and Bac Kan 2 tangerines on rice fields has the ability to grow and develop better than planting on hilly land in Cho Moi and Bach Thong districts...

After listening to the report on the results of the Project, the members of the Evaluation Council assessed that the Project had basically achieved its objectives, investigated, analyzed, and evaluated the origin, source, and main agrobiological characteristics of the existing tangerine varieties in Bac Kan province; accordingly, 8 tangerine varieties were identified for planting in 10 villages in 7 districts and cities, including a model for testing promising varieties with 2 tangerine varieties with an area of ​​2 hectares... In addition, the members requested the presiding agency to supplement the dossier, evidence, and documents to be complete as required; it is necessary to clarify the urgency of the Project; supplement the survey locations for consistency and suitability with reality; some contents and words need to be edited to ensure consistency; request the presiding agency to select promising tangerine varieties for further replication.

As a result, the Project "Research and evaluation of the current status of tangerines in Bac Kan province and selection of promising tangerine varieties for development" was unanimously accepted by the Council, scoring 82.2 points, classified as Passed.

Concluding the Conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nong Quang Nhat, Chairman of the Council requested the presiding agency to fully absorb the opinions of the Council members and complete the dossier according to regulations. The Department of Science and Technology reviewed all contents to ensure compliance with current new regulations; coordinated the reception and handover of the Project products, continued to take care of the 2 models after acceptance, recommended the development of superior varieties for replication, helping to develop the local socio-economy./.
