On July 27, at Binh Hiep International Border Gate (Kien Tuong Town), Long An Provincial People's Committee held a handover ceremony to receive 122 remains of martyrs, volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who died in Cambodia during the war.
Afterwards, the martyrs' remains were brought back to pay their respects and buried at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Vinh Hung - Tan Hung district (Long An province) in a solemn atmosphere.
Previously, Team K73 (Long An Provincial Military Command) organized the search and recovery of remains in Svay Rieng, Pailin, and Battampang provinces (Cambodia) during the 2022-2023 dry season. During the implementation of the mission, Team K73 always received attention, support, and facilitation from the Cambodian government, armed forces, and people.
Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Pham Tan Hoa, on behalf of the Party Committee, government and people of the province, read the eulogy, expressing deep gratitude for the great sacrifices of martyrs in the border protection wars, helping Cambodia escape genocide and carry out the cause of renovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland.
The search, recovery and repatriation of remains have contributed to easing the pain of martyrs' relatives and people nationwide; demonstrated the nation's morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking water" and contributed to educating the younger generation about love for their homeland and country.
The leaders of Long An province expressed their gratitude to the authorities, people and armed forces of Cambodia for their active cooperation and support in the search and collection of martyrs' remains. They hope that in the future, the Cambodian side will continue to promote cooperation and help Long An province in particular and Vietnam in general in the search for martyrs' remains.
According to the People's Committee of Long An province, from 2001 to present, Team K73 has searched for, recovered and repatriated 2,373 sets of martyrs' remains and 6 mass graves (about 280 remains) who died in Cambodia to be buried in their hometown cemeteries.
