Liverpool were beaten 3-0 by Atalanta at Anfield in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca scored twice for the visitors, with goals in the 38th and 60th minutes. Mario Pasalic sealed a 3-0 win for the Italians in the 83rd minute.
Speaking after the match, Klopp could not contain his anger. He said: "Honestly, there is nothing good to say about this performance. Losing is losing, I am not saying the changes made us lose. But if we want to play well regularly during the season, we have to make changes to give the players a rest.
We started well but then nothing happened. Even before they scored I saw we were starting to falter. The team was stretched, the midfielders were running around with no intention, I couldn't see anything anymore. The players seemed to have lost their minds for a while."
Liverpool are facing a tight schedule, with an average of a match every 3 days. Next Sunday, they will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
