When in operation, Long Thanh International Airport will need about 13,800 workers. Training local workers to serve the airport is necessary. This is an opportunity to create jobs for people in the project area.

Lilama 2 International College of Technology and Vietjet Aviation Academy (VJAA) have just signed a cooperation agreement to train aviation human resources. Recruitment and training will be promoted soon this year.
* Preparing human resources for Long Thanh airport
According to the design, after completion, Long Thanh airport will have 4 large and modern terminals, with a maximum capacity of 100 million passengers/year. Based on the current aviation labor situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the Vietnam Aviation Science Institute have provided some forecasts on labor demand.
Accordingly, to meet the operational needs of Long Thanh airport, more than 13,700 workers will be needed. Of these, more than 2,200 workers will have intermediate and college degrees, more than 3,800 workers will have elementary degrees, and the rest will have university, master's, doctoral degrees, and unskilled workers.
Currently, participating in the human resource training system for the aviation industry are the following units: Vietnam Aviation Academy, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Technology (Hanoi National University), University of Transport (Hanoi). In addition, there are 21 centers of companies that have requested permission from the Civil Aviation Authority to train human resources to meet the requirements of the units. In Dong Nai, there is no unit providing vocational training in this field.
Due to the limited number of vocational training units in the aviation sector; the number of students recruited and trained each year is not much, so the issue of training human resources to work at Long Thanh airport is of great concern to the province. Lilama 2 International Technology College has proactively connected and sought opportunities for cooperation in vocational training in the aviation sector.
Lilama 2 International College of Technology currently has 7 training programs that meet German international standards and 3 training programs that meet French international standards. This is one of the first 3 schools in Vietnam to implement an autonomous mechanism since 2016. |
The school has proactively worked with many businesses and partners to find vocational training solutions for Dong Nai children, especially children of people who gave up land to build the airport. After many efforts, on June 9, Lilama 2 International Technology College signed a cooperation agreement with Vietjet Aviation Academy (VJAA) to train human resources in the aviation sector.
The two sides will coordinate to train human resources in four professions: aircraft and aircraft equipment maintenance and repair staff; flight dispatch and operation staff; aviation equipment and vehicle control and operation staff operating in restricted areas of airports and ground handling staff serving flights.
In addition to cooperating with VJAA, Lilama 2 International Technology College is cooperating with VAECO (Aircraft Engineering Company Limited) to train a number of majors in the field of aviation engineering.
In 2023, the school will enroll students in the following occupations: aircraft maintenance engineering (mechatronics), aircraft structural repair engineering (welding), and aviation logistics. The enrollment target is 28 students/occupation. According to the school's announcement, the training period for these majors is 3 years. Of which, students will study for 2 years at Lilama 2 International College of Technology on the school's modern equipment and have 1 year of practice on various types of aircraft at VAECO.
* Design suitable programs, creating convenience for learners
After signing, Lilama 2 and VJAA will deploy detailed training program content to soon start recruiting and training. Lilama 2 is expected to start recruiting and opening the first course in September this year. Depending on the profession, each training course will last from 3 months to 3 years.
According to MSc. Nguyen Khanh Cuong, Principal of Lilama 2 International Technology College, VJAA already has a training program. From those training programs, experts from both sides will discuss and adjust the training program based on reality to make it suitable, take full advantage of the school's advantages and optimize benefits for students during the learning process.
Mr. Cuong said: “For subjects and programs that can take advantage of the school's existing equipment, training will be conducted at the school. For example, the fields of aircraft maintenance, aircraft frame maintenance, maintenance of mechanical equipment in airports, electricity... For specialized modules that require the use of modern equipment that the school does not have, students will be trained at VJAA. This is a model combining the two sides to optimize the best for learners."
Regarding the support policy for students who are children of Dong Nai, Mr. Cuong said that in the immediate future, the school will coordinate with the People's Committee of Dong Nai province and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to find the best mechanism and find funding from various sources so that children in the area can study at the lowest cost; with support, encouragement and attention from the province and locality.
MSc. Nguyen Khanh Cuong said: “We will try to train about 20% of the human resource needs for Long Thanh airport. It is expected that we will train over 2,600 workers in the above-mentioned occupations.”

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee NGUYEN SON HUNG: Linking training with job creation
Dong Nai has a project on vocational training and job creation for workers when implementing Long Thanh airport. But up to now, the project implementation has not been as targeted. The province has assigned the Department
LĐ-TBXH will review the implementation situation to make appropriate supplements and adjustments.
I highly appreciate the cooperation program between VJAA and Lilama 2 International Technology College in training aviation human resources; I believe the cooperation program will be successful.
Hopefully, the two sides will soon concretize the implementation plan of the cooperation program, linking training with job creation, especially jobs for people who have given up land for the Long Thanh Airport project, helping people in the project area have a life equal to or better than their old place of residence, according to the set goals.
Director of Vietjet Aviation Academy TRAN HUU QUOC: Carefully prepare for training cooperation
Vietjet Aviation Academy (VJAA) is the predecessor of Vietjet Air Training Center. We have been operating since Vietjet Air was established and have trained all Vietjet Air employees.
Currently, VJAA is a licensed enterprise to train aviation human resources, covering all areas of aviation personnel. We train pilots, ground staff, engineers, flight attendants and flight dispatchers... This is also our strength.
VJAA and Lilama 2 have had many visits and meetings to sign a cooperation agreement on training human resources for Long Thanh airport. We are focusing on training for subjects such as: ground handling staff, apron operating staff, technical staff. There are many positions that require a lot of human resources such as: aircraft repair, minor repair. The third subject that we are interested in is flight dispatching and control staff.
