Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Nguyen Huy Dung and officials and staff of the Embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in Egypt; Ambassador Ahmed Shaheen, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt for Asia-Pacific Affairs; General Secretary of the Egyptian Communist Party Salah Adly Abdelhafiz; General Secretary of the Egyptian Socialist Party Ahmed Bahaa El-Din Shaaban; ambassadors of many countries in Cairo; representatives of the diplomatic corps; representatives of several Egyptian ministries and branches; international friends and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates living and working in Egypt.

According to a VNA correspondent in Cairo, speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Dung highlighted the great significance of Independence Day, reviewing the heroic milestones in the 79-year struggle for national independence, building and defending the Fatherland, as well as the outstanding achievements after nearly 40 years of Renovation and international integration of Vietnam.

The Ambassador emphasized that today, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam continues to develop and achieve many great achievements. Gross domestic product (GDP) in the first 6 months of 2024 recorded a growth rate of 6.42% over the same period last year. The macro economy continues to be stable, inflation is under control. Export turnover continues to increase strongly, thereby bringing the trade surplus to 11.63 billion USD in the first 6 months of this year. The amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) poured into Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2024 reached 15.19 billion USD, an increase of 13.1% over the same period in 2023. The number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first 7 months of this year reached over 8 million, an increase of 58.4%.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam-Egypt relations have been continuously developing in many fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963. Egypt is one of the first countries in the Middle East and North Africa to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Bilateral relations between the two countries have reached new heights with state visits by the leaders of the two countries in 2017 and 2018. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited Vietnam in 2017 and the late Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang visited Egypt in 2018. Notably, within the framework of these two visits, Vietnam and Egypt signed cooperation documents in many fields. In 2023, Vietnam-Egypt relations continue to witness great developments, with the two sides actively exchanging high-level delegations. Among them were delegations of former Minister of Public Security, now General Secretary and President To Lam; Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang...

Assessing bilateral economic and trade relations, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Dung said that trade relations between the two countries continue to record positive signs. Vietnam's export turnover to the Egyptian market in the first 6 months of 2024 reached 246 million USD, up 4.1% over the same period last year. Vietnam's high-value export items include coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, machinery, equipment and spare parts, computers, electronic products and components, textiles, etc. The largest project of a Vietnamese enterprise in Egypt, also the first project with 100% investment capital from Vietnam worth 30 million USD, has come into operation in Sadat city, Monufia province, Egypt. Currently, more and more Vietnamese enterprises are interested in the Egyptian market.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam highly values ​​Egypt’s important role in promoting stability and security in the region. Vietnam will stand side by side with Egypt and other countries, supporting and standing ready to join the international community’s joint efforts to promote dialogue and provide humanitarian assistance to people in conflict-affected areas, contributing to peace, security and stability in the region and the world.

Speaking at the Vietnam Independence Day, Ambassador Ahmed Shaheen, Assistant Foreign Minister of Egypt for Asian and Pacific Affairs, reviewed the Vietnam-Egypt relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963, and affirmed that the relationship between the two countries has been growing in many fields. Ambassador Shaheen suggested that in addition to continuing to exchange high-level delegations in the coming time, the two countries should further promote cooperation in various fields, especially economics, trade, science and technology, education, culture and tourism. Mr. Shaheen also expressed his hope that more and more Vietnamese enterprises will come to invest and establish business establishments in the Egyptian market.
