Khmer Times reported that at a meeting yesterday, April 18, Mr. Chhin Ketna, Secretary General of the National Committee for the Organization of National and International Festivals of Cambodia, said that a high-ranking delegation from Laos led by President Thongloun Sisoulith will arrive in the capital Phnom Penh on April 23.
During the two-day visit, President Thongloun Sisoulith will meet with King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Hun Sen, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister Hun Manet.
According to a statement from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit aims to strengthen and tighten the traditional friendship and elevate the comprehensive and sustainable strategic partnership between Laos and Cambodia to become deeper and more effective.
Mr. Kin Phea, Director of the Institute of International Relations at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that the frequent exchange of visits between Cambodian and Lao leaders demonstrates the good relationship between the two countries.
Commenting that “Cambodia and Laos are less hostile countries to each other”, Mr. Kin Phea believes that the visit of the Lao President will “contribute to deepening the relationship and cooperation between the two countries”.
According to the expert, the good neighborly relationship between the two countries is connected by historical, geographical, cultural, linguistic and Buddhist ties, as well as people-to-people connections.
Last month, Prime Minister Hun Manet made a two-day official visit to Laos, meeting with President Thongloun Sisoulith and his counterpart Sonexay Siphandone.
