On the morning of April 26, Comrade Doan Minh Huan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, had a meeting and worked with the delegation of Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference.
Receiving and working with the delegation were comrade Pham Quang Ngoc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches; representatives of Xuan Truong Construction Enterprise.
Comrade Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Doan Minh Huan expressed his joy and excitement to welcome the President of the UNESCO General Assembly to visit Vietnam and Ninh Binh on the occasion of attending the 10th Anniversary of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Wishing her and the delegation a successful working trip, leaving many impressions.
The Provincial Party Secretary gave an overview of the province’s geographical location, natural features and historical and cultural values. Accordingly, Ninh Binh is a land of outstanding people, rich in cultural, historical and revolutionary traditions. This is considered a unique and distinctive geological park with beautiful natural scenery.
Trang An is the first and only mixed heritage in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, representing the main historical stages of the Earth and the historical development of life. In addition, the province also has Cuc Phuong, the first primeval national park in Vietnam; Van Long, the largest wetland nature reserve in the Northern Delta, and Con Noi, a world biosphere reserve. Notably, in the 10th century, Ninh Binh was the capital of Dai Co Viet state - the first centralized feudal state in Vietnam.
Recognizing this as an invaluable asset of the nation and humanity, over the past 20 years, Ninh Binh has made very important changes in its economic development orientation, shifting from brown to green based on the development of tourism and industries that do not harm the environment and heritage. Ninh Binh has solved the challenge of protecting heritage with economic development, nurturing the ecological environment, but still ensuring development.
From a little-known place, Ninh Binh has become a tourist center, named on the national and international tourism map. What is special is that tourism in Ninh Binh is not subject to the pressure of the crowd and relies on the community, people live in the heritage, protect the heritage and benefit from the heritage. There is close cooperation between the government, people and businesses to develop sustainable tourism.
With such development orientation, Ninh Binh has achieved outstanding results so far, with per capita income ranking 12th out of 63 provinces and cities; indicators of digital transformation, innovation, administrative reform, etc. are all ranked in the top 15 localities in the country.
Expressing his sincere gratitude for UNESCO's active support and companionship to Ninh Binh, the Provincial Party Secretary emphasized that UNESCO's values and development philosophy are very suitable and have many similarities with Ninh Binh's orientation of green and sustainable development based on ecological and cultural foundations... and that Trang An was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 2014, creating a breakthrough in awareness, bringing UNESCO's philosophy and vision into local governance and tourism product development.
In the coming time, Ninh Binh strives to become a centrally-governed city with the characteristics of a millennium heritage city and a creative city. The Provincial Party Secretary hopes to receive more active support and assistance from UNESCO to realize these goals and visions. In particular, UNESCO's lessons in heritage urban management and resolving the relationship between heritage economic development and heritage conservation capacity are needed.
The province also wishes to cooperate with UNESCO to summarize the Trang An model, so that it can adopt the Trang An declaration or charter, thereby sharing Ninh Binh's experience, as well as learning from other models to perfect its development model. In addition, the province also wishes to integrate more deeply into the world's network of heritage sites, tourism centers, cultural industry centers, and innovative cities.
Thanking the Provincial Party Secretary and provincial leaders for their warm and respectful welcome to the delegation, Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd UNESCO General Assembly, said that this was her first time coming to Ninh Binh but she clearly felt the pride and sense of responsibility of the provincial leaders towards their homeland.
Congratulating the achievements that the province has made in recent times, she also said that being fortunate to live in this beautiful land like paradise is a happiness but also poses great responsibilities and challenges. However, Ms. Miculescu affirmed: accompanying the development process of Ninh Binh will always have the coordination and support from UNESCO, so all challenges can be overcome.
Agreeing to support and highly appreciate the goals, visions and development orientations of the province, she believes that Ninh Binh has the basis to become a Millennium Heritage City, a place to inspire innovative and creative ideas in the world. Expressing satisfaction when seeing that the Provincial Party Secretary is also a researcher, and the province is very interested in the scientific aspect for development, Ms. Miculescu hopes to cooperate with the province and respectfully invites the provincial leaders to attend the upcoming Decade of Science in Sustainable Development Program organized by UNESCO.
Once again affirming that coming to Ninh Binh and attending the 10th Anniversary of Trang An Heritage is an honor and happiness, the President of the UNESCO General Assembly wishes Ninh Binh to achieve more success and will triumph in implementing its development strategy and aspirations, and UNESCO will always accompany and provide maximum support to the province in that process.
Thanking Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu for her recognition and good wishes to Ninh Binh, the Provincial Party Secretary also affirmed that Ninh Binh will actively respond to UNESCO's initiative on new issues of humanity, full of humanistic values and vision of sustainable development for people, for nations, peoples and a better world.
On this occasion, the Provincial Party Secretary presented a souvenir to Ms. Simona Mirela Miculescu, expressing his wish that the relationship between UNESCO and Vietnam as well as Ninh Binh will be increasingly strengthened, tightened and more effective in the coming time.
