The art exchange program "Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation 2023" will be held next August with the aim of spreading and promoting the good values of filial piety of the nation in general and Buddhism in particular.
From 2014-2019, the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) has organized cultural and artistic exchange activities to celebrate Vu Lan Festival as an annual program.
Each year, the program has its own name and artistic highlights, leaving a deep impression on the social community with the message of honoring filial piety, reminding the younger generations to remember the upbringing and birth of grandparents, parents, and ancestors as well as repaying the great contributions of national heroes, predecessors, and those who have contributed to the people and the country.

The program has brought about a strong effect, spreading the noble humanistic values of Buddhism in the national cultural tradition. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the program had to be suspended for the following years from 2020-2022.
In 2023, the program will be restarted to celebrate the United Nations Vesak Festival 2023, towards the 54th anniversary of the implementation of President Ho Chi Minh's Testament (1969-2023), the 8th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2, especially the joyful celebration of Vu Lan Festival PL.2567-DL.2023 and major national holidays.
According to Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Organizing Committee, the art exchange program "Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation 2023" aims to strongly spread the good values of filial piety to the Buddhist community and those who love Buddhism at home and abroad.
The Venerable emphasized: “Realizing that filial piety is very important in the life of each person, each family, and the whole community, society, and nation. Therefore, we all have the responsibility to join hands to spread love, to convey the message of sharing in life so that everyone becomes filial and happy.”
Artistically, the program is elaborately staged from content, sound, and light, professionally designed, grand, solemn, serene, and meaningful.
Mr. Le Doan Hop - former Minister of Information and Communications, advisor of the program, also affirmed that Vu Lan communication work and filial piety are noble gestures, especially remembering those who contributed to the revolution, remembering Uncle Ho's merits and those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The program is also an opportunity for units, individuals and organizations to show their concern through practical actions, demonstrating the spirit of harmony and connection between religion and life, between Vietnamese Buddhism and the country.
The art exchange program will be held on the evening of August 26 at the Hanoi Opera House with the participation of famous singers such as Trong Tan, Thanh Lam, Anh Tho, Tan Nhan, Dang Hong Nhung... with songs rich in humanity about love and compassion, nurturing, love of homeland - country, gratitude to the nation and compatriots.
Within the framework of the program, the Organizing Committee will allocate funds to give gifts and savings books to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, homeless elderly people and people in difficult circumstances.
Before the program took place, a pilgrimage to Con Dao was also held to offer incense in memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives here during the fierce years of resistance.
