Easy to raise, high profit
Mr. La Van Luu (in Dong Quang village, Quang Kim commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province) has found a way to make money at home by raising spotted deer.
After researching, he found that the economic efficiency that sika deer brings is very high, so Mr. Luu spent 100 million VND to buy 2 pairs of parent deer and 2 baby deer.
Deer are easy to raise, their food is mainly leaves, corn, fruits, and grass available on the hills. Nearly a year later, seeing that raising deer costs less food, Mr. Luu boldly invested more than 200 million VND in Ha Tinh to buy 7 more.
However, due to the barn and environment, 3 deer died (damage of about 100 million VND). From 2021 to now, the female deer in the herd has given birth to 3 more deer. Of the total 13 deer in the barn, 8 have been harvested for velvet. Each year, 1 deer can be cut for 600-700g of velvet, sold for 2.3 million VND/100g, he has an income of more than 100 million VND.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ngo Van Hung - Director of Trong Hung Cooperative (Te hamlet, Tan Hoa commune, Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province) - explained that choosing to raise sika deer for economic development is because the animal is easy to care for, has few diseases, has a wide output and gives high profits.
Thanks to deer farming, the total revenue of the cooperative in 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 is nearly 8 billion VND, with a profit of nearly 3 billion VND, thereby helping 33 member households have a comfortable life, especially helping some member households escape poverty. It can be seen that deer farming yields quite diverse products from velvet, bone glue, meat...
Strengthening linkages and supporting poverty reduction
With the economic efficiency brought by deer farming, Trong Hung Cooperative always attaches importance to the linkage factor for sustainable development. Specifically, the Cooperative is promoting linkage with large domestic deer farms to import good breeds, ensuring quality when members have the need to develop the herd.
In addition, the Cooperative also cooperates with Quang Son commune (Lap Thach district, Vinh Phuc province), Yen Dung district, My Loc district, Vu Ban district (Nam Dinh province), Yen Phong district (Bac Ninh province), Tan Yen district, Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang province) and deer breeding households in Thai Nguyen province to provide deer breeds to households in need, and at the same time receive technology transfer and deer care methods.
In particular, in the first two quarters of 2023, the Cooperative will supply to the domestic and foreign markets over 100 deer of various types to units with the need to develop the production of this type of livestock in the provinces of Lang Son, Bac Giang, Tuyen Quang, Hoa Binh, Nam Dinh, Vinh Phuc...
The cooperative has helped members increase their income, reduce poverty, and stabilize the economy. Because Tan Hoa used to be one of the most disadvantaged mountainous communes in Phu Binh district.
The average income of each member in the cooperative is currently 10 million VND/person/month. Notably, 2 members of the cooperative have escaped poverty thanks to participating in deer farming under the guidance of the cooperative.
To adapt to the market, in the coming time, the cooperative members will also coordinate with the district's functional departments to participate in the local poverty reduction program through promoting the transfer of deer breeding techniques and supporting deer breeding for poor and near-poor households.
The economic model of Trong Hung Cooperative as well as that of Mr. La Van Luu not only creates a stable source of income but also encourages and motivates people of other ethnic groups to dare to think, dare to do, and confidently develop the economy on their homeland.
