(NLDO) - The Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said that planning and building high-tech waste treatment plants is a top priority in the coming year 2025.
At the question-and-answer session of the 21st session of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council on October 12, the People's Council delegates requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to explain the responsibilities and solutions of the industry in the operation of the two waste treatment plants (WTPs) in Da Lat and Bao Loc, which have many shortcomings and have greatly affected the environment.

Recently, the press has repeatedly reported that the two waste treatment plants in Xuan Truong commune (Da Lat city) of Green Energy Environment Company Limited and Da Lao commune (Bao Loc city) of Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company have repeatedly stopped receiving waste, causing bad odors, environmental pollution, and unpaid wages to workers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trai, acting Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Lam Dong province, said that the province has 3 waste incineration plants in Xuan Truong commune (Da Lat city), Dai Lao commune (Bao Loc city) and Duc Trong district (not yet implemented), the rest of the waste is mainly buried.
At the NMXLR in Dai Lao and Xuan Truong communes, Mr. Trai said that many problems occurred during the operation. These are difficulties that occur not only in Lam Dong, especially with urban waste treatment. The department has inspected and reminded many times.

"During the process, people violated the rules, but we also created conditions for them to fix them to avoid waste congestion, especially in Da Lat city," Mr. Trai analyzed.
Regarding solutions, Mr. Trai said that it is necessary to promote waste classification at source; increase funding to buy more vehicles for collection and transportation; and find solutions for waste treatment technology.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, stated that the province has about 1,000 tons of domestic waste per day but has not yet planned a high-tech waste treatment plant. This is an inevitable need and will be given top priority in 2025 for planning a waste treatment plant; setting specific criteria and finding investors.
"The province's criteria are to be able to handle it as much as possible, secondly not to take up much space, and thirdly not to cause bad odors and dust that affect health," Mr. Thai affirmed.

According to Mr. Thai, with such criteria, it is impossible to divide the refineries into districts/cities, but there must be concentrated refineries with a scale of 500 tons/day to invest in high technology. Localities should not think that each district has 1 refinery just to serve themselves. It must be done in the direction of only needing about 3 refineries with a scale of about 500 tons/day with modern technology, transparent investment process, clear commitment, then it is completely possible.
"We will do it in 2025. Regarding high-tech waste treatment, the construction process takes about 2 years. We have been behind for more than ten years, so we must be determined to do it soon," affirmed the Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee.
