Lai Chau searching for two people suspected missing after being swept away by floodwaters

According to Lung Thang Commune Police, Sin Ho District, Lai Chau Province, at 6:40 a.m. on April 13, 2025, the commune police received a report from the public about suspicious signs of a person being swept away by water.

After receiving the report, the unit coordinated with local authorities to conduct verification. At the scene of the incident, there was a HONDA BLADE 110cc motorbike, black in color, without a license plate, the key was in the lock and lying under the stream.

The motorbike and identification papers of one of the two victims were found at the scene of the incident.

The force brought the car to shore, opened the trunk and found 2 phones and a black leather wallet inside; the wallet contained an ID card, a driver's license, and a vehicle registration certificate all bearing the name of Lieu A Vu, born in 1998, residing in Can Ty 1 village, Ma Quai commune, Sin Ho district.

According to information from local people, at around 10-11 pm on April 12, 2025, two people were riding a motorbike from Tan Phong village, Phieng Quang village to the center of Lung Thang commune. When passing the Lung Cu stream overflow bridge in Lung Cu village, due to heavy rains before, the stream water rose and swept away the motorbike and two people.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Sin Ho district established a working group of the district to inspect and direct at the scene. Mobilizing the district military force, local government, commune police, Lung Thang commune militia and people to search for the missing person.

Lai Chau has now entered the rainy season with complicated weather conditions. Authorities advise people to be careful and not subjective in order to avoid risks in areas with rivers, streams, and culverts that overflow during the rainy season. They should pay attention to the system of signs, water level gauges, and warnings of danger from local authorities and functional forces.

Localities need to increase patrols, inspections, and constant vigilance to warn and guide people and vehicles passing through culverts and flooded and landslide-prone roads to ensure safety.

Communes and towns need to coordinate with functional forces to be on duty 24/7 at underground spillways; step up propaganda work to raise people's awareness of natural disaster prevention...
