Dak Lak Dormitory of Faculty of Medicine, Tay Nguyen University invested more than 35 billion VND with 120 rooms, but only 7 students live there because it is far from the internship place.
The dormitory consists of two 5-storey buildings, with a total of 120 rooms, on an area of 3,800 m2, invested by Tay Nguyen University, from government bond capital.
The project was completed in 2012 to meet the accommodation, living and studying needs of 960 students, convenient for internship at Dak Lak General Hospital (Tan Thanh ward).

However, before the project was completed, in 2019, Dak Lak Provincial General Hospital was converted into the Central Highlands Regional General Hospital and moved to a new location, about 5 km away from the old location. For convenience, many students left their dormitories and rented accommodation outside.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truc, Principal of Tay Nguyen University, said that currently there are only 7 students in the dormitory. Therefore, recently, the school has rented out about 100 rooms to lecturers and local workers. The rental price is 700,000 VND per room, per month.
"This amount is used to repair the water supply and drainage system, equip fire protection systems, install cameras...", Mr. Truc said, adding that the dormitory is showing signs of deterioration, some rooms are leaking, the walls are peeling, and there is mold.
However, realizing that this was against regulations, the school stopped renting and reported to superiors to find a solution.

Tay Nguyen University was established in 1977 with the mission of training human resources in many fields for the Central Highlands region. The school's Faculty of Medicine trains in Medicine, Laboratory Technology, and Nursing with about 300 students a year.
The situation of empty student dormitories occurs in many localities. For example, the dormitory of Khanh Hoa Medical College was invested with 77 billion VND, the student housing area of Bac Lieu with 81 billion VND, scale of over 1,000 seats, but both have been abandoned for many years.
