According to the Admissions Board of Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School, this year the number of candidates registering for the 6th grade entrance exam increased by more than 2,000 candidates compared to 2022: in 2022 there were 3,764 candidates, this year there were 5,970 candidates.
With a target of recruiting 250 students for grade 6, this year a student taking the exam will compete with nearly 24 other students to win a place in the school.
To apply to the school, candidates who have just graduated from primary school had to take 3 competency assessment tests on the morning of June 4, including: math (45 minutes), Vietnamese (45 minutes), English (30 minutes). The test format is objective multiple choice combined with essay.
The school arranged 167 examination rooms on the campus of Hanoi National University of Education. Many volunteer students were mobilized to support this exam, from directing traffic at the school gate, guiding parents to park their children in the right place and wait for their children in a safe area, to leading students to the waiting area to enter the exam room...
The tension and excitement were evident on the young faces of the candidates as they lined up to enter the examination room. Perhaps for many of them, this was the first important exam in their student life, an exam that not only carried their own dreams but also the hopes of their parents.
The students preparing to enter grade 6 next school year were born in 2012 (year of the Dragon), according to folk belief, the year of the "golden dragon", which is the reason why the number of students entering junior high school has increased dramatically in many localities, including Hanoi.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in the 2023-2024 school year, the city will have 188,429 students entering grade 6, an increase of 38,519 students compared to the previous school year. Comparing the number of grade 6 students entering school with the number of grade 9 students graduating, secondary schools in the city will increase by 59,158 students.
