On November 17, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phong Dien District to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 200 Great Solidarity houses for poor and near-poor households in the city, funded by the PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVTrans).
This is a practical project to welcome the 15th Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030 and respond to the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Can Tho city" in 2024 - 2025.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City Nguyen Trung Nhan said that in recent times, the city’s Fatherland Front at all levels and its member organizations have had many practical activities to support and help poor households escape poverty in a sustainable way. In particular, building houses for poor households with urgent housing needs is one of the key programs that the city’s Fatherland Front at all levels has deployed and effectively implemented.
In 2024 alone, the Fatherland Front at all levels in the city mobilized the "For the Poor" Fund to reach 25.6 billion VND. From the mobilized Fund and socialized sources, it organized the construction and repair of over 400 solidarity houses for the poor, contributing to significantly reducing the rate of poor and near-poor households in the city, and significantly improving people's lives.
However, according to statistics, there are still many households in the city facing housing difficulties. In order to focus resources on caring for the poor, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels of the city need the support and assistance of agencies, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists, so that together with the Fatherland Front, sectors, and levels, we can better care for the city's social security work.
“On this occasion, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, I would like to sincerely thank the noble gesture of the Oil and Gas Transportation Corporation, through the “For the Poor” Fund of Can Tho city, for donating 10 billion VND, providing more resources, contributing together with the Party Committee, Government and People of Can Tho city to achieve the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households in Can Tho city”, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho city Nguyen Trung Nhan said.
Also at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhan suggested that the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of districts and towns coordinate with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of communes and wards to select reputable contractors with construction capacity, construction in accordance with the approved design and estimate. Ensure the progress with the best quality, put into use for the people soon; especially the quality of the house is enough to be used for 10 - 15 years.
Propose that the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of communes and wards coordinate with the People's Inspection Committee and the Community Investment Supervision Committee to actively operate and fully inspect and supervise all construction items to ensure the quality of each house. This is also the responsibility and duty to care for the life of each household and improve the lives of the people.
Families who are considered for building solidarity houses are requested to actively coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the contractor to ensure favorable conditions for completing the house construction as soon as possible, to stabilize their lives and welcome the Lunar New Year 2025 in their new houses. Family members continue to strive, encourage each other and are determined to develop the family economy to escape poverty sustainably.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City Nguyen Trung Nhan also noted that districts and towns continue to promote propaganda and mobilize social resources to actively support the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels and social security programs, in order to better care for poor households, near-poor households, and households in especially difficult circumstances to escape poverty and stabilize their lives; contributing to the movement "Can Tho joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind and social security work" and the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the city".
