Opening of "Red Journey"

On the morning of July 18, at Conference Center 25B (Thanh Hoa City), the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation of Thanh Hoa province opened the 12th "Red Journey - Connecting Vietnamese Blood" in 2024 and honored outstanding blood donation groups, individuals, and families in 2023-2024.

On the side of Thanh Hoa province, there were comrade Dau Thanh Tung, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization Board; leaders of departments, branches, organizations and localities in the province; sponsors for the program; 109 collectives, families and individuals honored and over 2,000 volunteers participating in blood donation.

In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung emphasized: In recent years, the "Red Journey" Program has been organized in many provinces and cities across the country, leaving important marks, with many practical and effective activities. The 12th "Red Journey" Program was held in Thanh Hoa from July 17 to 18, 2024, in Thanh Hoa City with many meaningful activities that contributed to a strong change in the voluntary blood donation movement in all agencies, units and enterprises.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee thanked the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion; the timely leadership and direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee; the coordination of departments, branches, organizations, agencies, units and enterprises; the consensus and response of all classes of people, along with the efforts of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation at all levels in effectively implementing the voluntary blood donation movement in the province. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee warmly commended the achievements of collectives, individuals and families who have made many contributions to the voluntary blood donation movement; commended the Organizing Committee of the 12th "Red Journey" in 2024 in Thanh Hoa for effectively implementing the program.

At the same time, it is recommended that Party committees and authorities at all levels; departments, branches, sectors, organizations, units and enterprises continue to pay attention to leadership, direction and propaganda work to mobilize voluntary blood donation, create conditions for healthy people to donate blood to save lives and actively participate in the voluntary blood donation movement for a healthy society.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also called on all classes of people in the province who are in good health to participate in donating blood and donating blood repeatedly; at the same time, actively respond to the "Red Drops of Blood" campaign launched by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the National Blood Center, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the Central “Red Journey” Program in 2024, Tran Ngoc Que affirmed: Blood is a special medicine, safe blood for patients can only be donated by healthy people. Ensuring a safe blood source for emergency and patient treatment is an important task not only for the health sector but also for the whole society.

Voluntary blood donation activities in our country have developed strongly in recent years, meeting the demand for blood and blood products for emergency and patient treatment, overcoming the shortage of blood during the summer and Tet holidays. In 2023 alone, the whole country received over 1.58 million units of blood, the voluntary blood donation rate reached over 97%, the rate of population participating in blood donation reached 1.6%, the rate of 350ml blood reached 66%.

In Thanh Hoa province, voluntary blood donation has developed rapidly, receiving active response from many departments, agencies, units and the public. Thanh Hoa is also one of 5 provinces and cities nationwide to organize all 12 "Red Journey" periods. One of the outstanding activities of the "Red Journey" in Thanh Hoa province is to honor collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in voluntary blood donation. The activity not only contributes to praising and honoring blood donors but also inspires and spreads the spirit of volunteerism. Thereby, making blood donation to save people gradually become a cultural beauty in social life, a vivid demonstration in preserving and promoting the tradition of humanity "loving others as you love yourself" of our nation.
