Early detection of lung cancer and modern treatment methods help patients avoid chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Lung cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases and has the highest mortality rate. However, with the development of medicine, especially in early detection and application of modern treatment methods, many patients can completely cure lung cancer right from the early stages without the need for chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

When lung cancer is detected and treated at stage 1, the cure rate can be as high as 90%.

One of the typical stories about radical treatment of early stage lung cancer is the case of Ms. Ngoc, 61 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City. Ms. Ngoc went to the hospital after having a fever for three days, difficulty breathing, severe cough and feeling tired.

Through examination and chest CT scan, the doctor discovered a tumor in the upper lobe of the right lung measuring 18x13mm and having suspicious malignant characteristics. The doctors determined that this could be lung cancer, although a biopsy was not yet necessary.

With the tumor showing suspicious cancerous characteristics, doctors decided to perform thoracic endoscopy to remove the right lobe of the lung and also perform lymph node dissection.

The surgery lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes and was a great success. After the pathology, the results confirmed stage 1B lung cancer but no signs of metastasis. Ms. Ngoc recovered quickly and did not need chemotherapy or radiation, thanks to early detection and radical surgery.

Ms. Ngoc's story is just one of the typical cases showing the effectiveness of early detection and treatment of lung cancer.

Another case is Mr. Tuan, 33 years old, who was found to have a small, blurry spot on his lung during a general health check. He is a long-time smoker and is in the high-risk group for lung cancer. Thanks to a regular lung cancer screening program, the doctor discovered a tumor in the middle lobe of his right lung.

Although the tumor was small, with suspicious malignant characteristics, the doctors decided to perform surgery to remove the right lobe of the lung. The pathology results confirmed stage 1A lung cancer. After surgery, Mr. Tuan did not need any additional treatment and quickly recovered.

According to Dr. Tran Cong Quyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, endoscopic surgery is currently becoming the preferred method in the treatment of early-stage lung cancer. This technique has many outstanding advantages such as being less invasive, low risk, and quick recovery time.

Doctors only need to make 3 small incisions on the chest wall, from which they insert the camera and surgical instruments to remove the tumor. This method not only helps to minimize pain for the patient but also preserves aesthetics.

In addition to traditional endoscopic surgery, robotic endoscopic surgery is a new step forward in lung cancer treatment. With the support of a flexible robotic arm, doctors can perform precise surgical operations, avoid damaging surrounding organs and minimize blood loss. This technique helps patients experience less pain, faster recovery time and ensures aesthetics.

Robotic endoscopic surgery is expected to be deployed at Tam Anh General Hospital in the near future, opening up new hope for lung cancer patients.

One of the most important factors in successfully treating lung cancer is detecting the disease at an early stage. According to experts, lung cancer can take from 1 to 1.5 years to progress from the early stage to the late stage. However, the early stages of the disease have no obvious symptoms, so regular lung cancer screening is extremely important.

Regular lung cancer screening is recommended for high-risk individuals, including: men over 55 years of age, long-term smokers, people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), people with a family history of lung cancer, or people who have been exposed to toxic substances such as asbestos, cadmium, nickel, chromium, uranium, and arsenic for a long time.

When lung cancer is detected and treated at stage 1, the cure rate can be up to 90%. According to statistics, more than 65% of patients with stage 1 lung cancer can live more than 5 years after treatment. This shows the importance of early detection and proper treatment, helping to improve the quality of life and prolong the life of patients.
