Director Huynh Lap acknowledged that "The Ancestors' House" - an 18+ film starring Phuong My Chi - still has shortcomings and hopes the audience will accept it.

On the evening of February 18, the 32-year-old director premiered a spiritual-themed film starring him and Phuong My Chi. After the early screening, he chatted and listened to the audience and the media share their feelings about the film.

In addition to positive reviews on acting and music, some guests said that the film lacked cinematic camera angles and many scenes resembled web-dramas. The work was also criticized for being too "dramatic" in the ending. Huynh Lap said he agreed with the comments, saying that he himself realized the shortcomings when watching the film again.

"I tried to do my best in the second film, after the first film. Blind Mage (2019), trying to create a different feeling and rhythm. If people find it unsatisfactory when watching, I promise to take that as a lesson and correct the mistakes in the third film," he said.

Huynh Lap said that although the film pursues a spiritual theme, it is not horror-themed but aims at a message about family affection. Through details about ancestor worship rituals, the work conveys the love and gratitude each person has for their ancestors. The director included some scenes that exploit the beauty of traditional crafts such as making banh xeo and the art of making glass paintings.

Phuong My Chi said that when she read the script, she was nervous because she had not studied acting professionally. In the first days of filming, the singer was not used to the atmosphere of working on set. She also felt pressured about time, because she had to film continuously, while ensuring her studies and tour. School tour.

She gradually grasped how to get into character thanks to the guidance of Huynh Lap and art advisor Ly Minh Thang. Phuong My Chi has many similarities with the main character, such as being the same age, working in the creative arts field, and both starting work early to support their families. Many details in the script made the 22-year-old singer sympathize, from losing connection with her mother, having a "male-dominated" family to being looked down upon by relatives for her passion. The film also features the participation of artists Trung Dan, Hanh Thuy, Huynh Dong, Puka, Dao Anh Tuan, and Kieu Linh.
