Data centers (DC) serving the needs of the digital age are one of the issues of concern in every country today, including Vietnam on the digital transformation journey. According to a report by JLL Vietnam, the domestic DC market is currently "dominated" by domestic technology companies with names such as VNPT, Viettel IDC, VNG, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom...
Recently, international businesses have also begun to participate, with the latest being Alibaba announcing plans to establish a DC in Vietnam. "It is only a matter of time before Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Tencent invest in their own data centers in Vietnam," JLL assessed.
Mr. Dao Quang Vinh revealed that Huawei will plan to build a DC in Vietnam when market demand reaches a certain threshold.
Speaking on the sidelines of the New Horizon Business Summit 2024 event held in Hanoi on June 17-18, Mr. Dao Quang Vinh, Huawei Vietnam Solution Director, assessed that the Vietnamese market is in the process of development and "very attractive to investors". However, deploying a DC system requires a lot of costs as well as other conditions.
Mr. Dao Quang Vinh believes that the digital transformation process in Vietnam is taking place very quickly, so the cloud computing market is also promising, growing every year. In recent years, telecommunications service providers and large technology enterprises have invested heavily in computing infrastructure. "The cloud computing market in Vietnam will explode, from many different perspectives. This can come from sales of public clouds or on-premise services (technology solutions that support on-site data storage)," Mr. Vinh shared.
The director also emphasized that cloud infrastructure promotes successful digital transformation for businesses, and that moving data to the cloud is the key for businesses to create breakthrough growth in the market and contribute to the digital economy.
Building and operating data centers is a trend in the coming time to serve the needs of cloud computing and digital transformation.
As for Huawei, this person said that they are still in the process of evaluating the Vietnamese market and when demand reaches a certain threshold, "Huawei will build a data center". In addition to the issue of cost and market demand, the location of the DC will also have to be evaluated to ensure the company's global standards in ensuring data safety and security.
In Southeast Asia, Huawei currently has DCs in countries with medium and developed economies including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. In the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the company currently has more than 40 data centers with a capacity of 20,000 network cabinets.
In Vietnam, it is forecasted that in the coming years there will be a boom in DC with an expected scale of 1.27 billion USD by 2030, an average compound growth rate of 10.8%. Although considered a potential market in the field, Vietnam is still behind some countries, in which Singapore has a market size 15 times larger than Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia are 5 times larger.
