German Ambassador to Vietnam Helga Margarete Barth assessed that Vietnam-Germany trade cooperation is developing positively, especially when the EVFTA Agreement is implemented.

On the morning of February 14, the German Embassy in Vietnam held a press conference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Germany diplomatic relations (September 20, 1975 - September 23, 2025).

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth - German Ambassador to Vietnam - shared that the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Germany diplomatic relations in 2025 is an opportunity for both sides to look back on the past as well as emphasize the present and look forward to the prospects and potential for future cooperation in many fields.
In particular, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth affirmed that people-to-people cooperation is the foundation between the two countries, the driving force for implementing cooperation in many cultural and economic aspects in recent times.
" In particular, this is demonstrated by the fact that thousands of German tourists come to Vietnam every year. In 2024 alone, there were more than 250,000 German tourists coming to Vietnam, the number of German tourists coming to Vietnam is second only to France in the European region. In contrast, there are currently more than 200,000 Vietnamese people living in Germany" - Ms. Helga Margarete Barth cited.

Assessing the economic and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Germany, German Ambassador to Vietnam Helga Margarete Barth expressed that Vietnam has had a very successful process of opening up and integrating, which has created opportunities for economic and investment cooperation between the two sides to develop. "Germany has also had a prominent presence in Vietnam, in which Germany is investing more than 3.6 billion USD in Vietnam; more than 530 German enterprises are doing business successfully in Vietnam, providing 50,000 jobs" - Ms. Helga Margarete Barth said.
Regarding bilateral trade relations, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth emphasized that they are developing positively, especially the implementation of the Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has contributed to bringing the Vietnam - Germany trade turnover to 8.8 billion EUR in 2024. "The Vietnam - EU trade balance is developing in a direction that is beneficial to Vietnam when the EVFTA is implemented, many Vietnamese products are present in the EU market as well as Germany " - Ms. Helga Margarete Barth further assessed.
Special Anniversary Event Series
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany relations, Ms. Helga Margarete Barth informed that the German Embassy in Vietnam and the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are coordinating with German intermediary organizations in Vietnam to develop a diverse and attractive program to introduce the fields in implementing the Vietnam-Germany cooperation commitments.
The German Embassy in Vietnam came up with the idea of launching a writing contest called “A Day as an Ambassador” to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8). This would create a forum to empower women by opening up opportunities for them to participate in various fields.
In addition, an activity that the Ambassador enthusiastically shared was the organization of the "Career Guidance Bus from North to South" to provide information on safe immigration to Germany, programs to equip knowledge about language, culture, career guidance, vocational education and university in Vietnam based on German criteria.

Along with that, the event that Ms. Helga Margarete Barth especially emphasized was the German Festival in Hanoi. According to the German Ambassador, this is a highlight of the 50th Anniversary of the official diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany. " The focus of the event is the development cooperation between the two countries. On this occasion, other German organizations will also introduce their activities over the past 5 decades with Vietnamese partners" - Ms. Helga Margarete Barth said.
Accordingly, the German Festival in Hanoi will convey the common achievements between the two countries, especially the development relationship between the two countries will be introduced in multimedia form in a display booth. For example, products that can be held and touched include wood traceability applications, sustainably produced coffee, renewable energy technology or organic shrimp from the Mekong Delta.
" The German Embassy will coordinate to organize an online exhibition of German-Vietnamese faces; the Vietnam-Germany street art competition "Turn our wall into your painting"; Signing a football cooperation agreement between the German Bundesliga and the Vietnam Football Federation..." - Ms. Helga Margarete Barth added.
