Coma, abdominal perforation after cosmetic surgery

VnExpressVnExpress08/06/2023

Ho Chi Minh City After liposuction surgery, a 50-year-old woman suffered a perforated abdomen, torn blood vessels, and fell into a coma. She was promptly saved by doctors at Cho Ray Hospital.

On June 8, Dr. Pham Minh Huy, Department of Emergency Resuscitation, said that the patient was transferred to the emergency room two nights ago with cold hands and feet, balloon compression through the endotracheal tube, weak pulse, and unmeasurable blood pressure. The on-call team drained the abdomen from the front line and about 300 ml of diluted blood was found.

The patient underwent an abdominal CT scan and was then taken straight to the emergency operating room. During the surgery, the woman lost 6 liters of blood, due to internal bleeding caused by a torn blood vessel (located under the abdominal wall muscles).

After 48 hours of treatment, the patient is awake, responsive, has stable vital signs, and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.

Doctors assessed that the woman was fortunate to be hospitalized in time, receive blood transfusions, recover from organ damage, and have no sequelae. Currently, authorities do not know the patient's residence, the location of the cosmetic surgery, or the services she used. A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the unit is investigating and clarifying the incident.
