Statistics from January 1, 2024 to June 20, 2024, the Departments of Transport have revoked badges for 18,123 vehicles violating speed 5 times/1,000 km or more; Disciplined and reminded 189,243 vehicles violating speed, exceeding driving time, and not transmitting data of journey monitoring devices to the System of the Vietnam Road Administration.
Identifying transportation work serving socio-economic activities as an important political task throughout the first 6 months of the year, the Ministry of Transport has also directed agencies, units under the Ministry and Departments of Transport to proactively implement key solutions and tasks as set out, such as: strengthening inspection and examination to ensure traffic safety at transport business units; stabilizing transport fares; and limiting flight delays and cancellations in air transport.
In addition, it is necessary to coordinate with the functional forces of the Ministry of Public Security and localities to strengthen the regulation and strict management of transportation activities, detect and strictly handle illegal vehicles and vehicles operating on fixed routes.
Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, transportation activities have fully, safely and conveniently served the people.
Large cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are gradually putting urban railway transport into operation, promoting the use of public transport by people.
Positive signals from public transport
The report of the National Traffic Safety Committee also said that most localities across the country have bus routes operating from the city center to the socio-economic centers of districts and towns.
Up to now, 60/63 provinces and cities nationwide have organized public passenger transport by bus (3 provinces have not yet: Ha Giang, Lai Chau and Yen Bai) with more than 8,978 vehicles, transporting about 1 billion passengers per year.
In Hanoi alone, in the first 5 months of 2024, the capital's bus system transported nearly 170 million passengers.
Large cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are gradually putting urban railway transport into operation, promoting the use of public transport by people.
Of which, the Cat Linh - Ha Dong route has a stable number of passengers of about 35,000 passengers/day with the number of passengers needing to use it for regular trips.
Of these, about 47% are workers, 45% are students and the remaining 8% travel for other purposes.
“This is a very positive signal in the development of mass public passenger transport in Hanoi capital.
In the coming time, when the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station (Hanoi) and Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien routes are put into operation, it will contribute to improving the market share of public transport, helping to reduce traffic congestion in large cities," the National Traffic Safety Committee commented.
