According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni will visit Vietnam on November 28 and 29.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang said that during this visit, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni will have talks and meetings with all of Vietnam's highest-ranking leaders.

"Through this, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni wants to convey to the leaders and people of Vietnam the warm, close friendship between the leaders of Cambodia and the leaders and people of Vietnam," Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang told VNA.

The visit is expected to contribute to enhancing political trust between the two sides and promoting cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, as well as other fields.

In recent times, the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has continued to develop positively. In terms of politics, the two countries' senior leaders have regularly visited each other.

Just a few days before this visit by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man arrived in Phnom Penh for an official visit and attended two important international conferences hosted by Cambodia. Previously, in July 2024, at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, General Secretary To Lam (then President - PV) paid a state visit to Cambodia. In October 2024, on the occasion of attending the 19th Francophone Summit in Paris (France), General Secretary and President To Lam met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.

Regarding cooperation in the fields of national defense and security and foreign affairs, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang said that over the years, Vietnam and Cambodia have always adhered to the spirit that "the security and stability of one country is also the interest of the other".

Economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries has developed rapidly and achieved encouraging results. Vietnam continues to be one of Cambodia's three largest trading partners in the world and the largest in ASEAN.

In 2023, due to the impact of the world economy, trade turnover between the two countries will only reach 8.6 billion USD, down 19.5% over the same period in 2023.

However, entering 2024, bilateral trade showed signs of recovery, reaching 8.3 billion USD in the first 10 months of the year, an increase of 17.5% over the same period in 2023. The two sides have set a target of 20 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover in the coming time.

Vietnam currently has 205 valid projects in Cambodia with a registered capital of 2.94 billion USD. A number of Vietnamese enterprises are operating quite effectively and contributing positively to the Cambodian budget as well as the relationship between the two countries.

These include Metfone Company, Vietnam Rubber Industry Group, Angkor Milk Company, commercial banks... In addition, Thaco Group's high-tech agricultural project in Ratanakiri and Kratie provinces also brings many expectations for cooperation in the agricultural sector of the two countries.

The King of Cambodia is respected by many people.

King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia was born on May 14, 1953 in Phnom Penh. On October 14, 2004, he was unanimously crowned King of Cambodia by the members of the Royal Council, succeeding his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, who had abdicated earlier. He is considered a symbol of unity and reconciliation in the land of pagodas and is highly respected and loved by the Cambodian people for his kindness. As King of Cambodia, he paid his first state visit to Vietnam in 2006. This visit to Vietnam is even more meaningful as it takes place on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his accession to the throne.
