According to the patient, about a month before being admitted to the hospital, she felt like she had swallowed a bone but tried to swallow it. After that, she had a stomachache and went to a private clinic where she was diagnosed with stomach pain and was prescribed medication to take at home. However, after taking the medication, her condition did not improve, the stomachache increased, so her family took her to Bai Chay Hospital for emergency treatment.

Upon admission to the hospital, the patient was examined by doctors, given tests, an ultrasound and an abdominal CT scan. The results of the abdominal CT scan with contrast injection showed that a foreign object had punctured the stomach. After consultation, the patient was scheduled for emergency surgery.
Dr. Duong Xuan Hiep said that the condition of patients having fish bones piercing the stomach and small intestine is not uncommon. Fish bones have sharp tips that are very dangerous when entering the digestive tract. However, many people are still not really vigilant when eating and drinking. At first, it may just be a bone stuck in the throat, then it may be a puncture of the digestive system like the case mentioned above. If not detected in time, it will lead to danger to life.

Through the above case, Dr. Hiep recommends that people should be careful when eating, especially with foods from animals with bones such as meat and fish. Remove all bones before eating, even with small, brittle bones, chew carefully and slowly, and do not be subjective with bones, no matter how small.
Especially for the elderly and children, the chewing and swallowing reflex is weaker, so special care must be taken. When falling into cases such as persistent dull abdominal pain that does not subside, or any unusual abdominal pain, the patient should go to the emergency room for a doctor to examine, diagnose and have timely treatment.
