More than 2 months after the tragic landslide, the kindergarten in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district) is once again bustling with the sounds of children reading and teachers teaching. Overcoming the difficulties and losses caused by natural disasters, 37 children of the school and 4 teachers together celebrated Teachers' Day in a cozy and simple atmosphere.
“The atmosphere of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, November 20, this year is different from every other year. Normally, we would organize a performance, but this year we will teach the children to make light handicrafts so that teachers and students can have fun together and ease some of the pain after the terrible flash flood in September,” said young teacher Mai Hoa (29 years old), who teaches a 2-3 year old kindergarten class.

Ms. Mai inspired the children by letting them share what they wanted to do for the holiday. Many suggestions were made, such as writing poems or singing songs, but most of the children wanted to make cards. The simple cards were not only gifts for their teachers, but the children also brought them home to give to their mothers.
The materials used to make the cards were flowers, leaves, and even corn kernels. Each child was given a piece of white paper and was free to decorate it with the guidance and assistance of the teacher. Not only decorating, the teachers also helped the children write a few simple but meaningful wishes for this special day.
Holding the small cards, the children could not help but giggle and tease each other. The teachers also felt warm and peaceful. “I am very happy to have taught the children the basic skills to make a card. Looking at the results, I cannot help but feel excited,” Ms. Mai Hoa smiled gently.
She also added that the kindergarten class will continue to study at this school until the resettlement area is completed. After the Nu village resettlement area is built at Sim Hill (Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province), all teachers and students will move to the new school to study.

Joining in the atmosphere of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, nearly 100 students from grades 1 to 9, Phuc Khanh Primary and Secondary School No. 1 (Lang Nu, Bao Yen District, Lao Cai) had a memorable celebration.
Ms. Hoang Thi Mai Hoa, Vice Principal of the school, said that every year the school organizes many entertainment programs, sports, wall newspapers, and art performances to celebrate this special holiday, but this year the school only organizes some simple, warm activities.
“The school does not organize many activities, but the students still bring bouquets of wild flowers or small gifts to send to their teachers, which makes us very touched,” Ms. Hoang Thi Mai Hoa added.

Not carefully wrapped gift boxes, nor red roses or yellow daisies, the gifts that students here bring to class for their teachers are wild flowers from the roadside or in their own gardens. Sometimes the flowers are not even carefully wrapped, the students hold them in their hands all the way, hoping to quickly get to class to give them to their teachers.
Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20th, took place peacefully in one of the areas most severely affected by landslides after Typhoon Yagi a few months ago. Everyone is trying their best and fastest for a new life here.
