Social work activities, a bridge between hospitals and patients

On March 24, Thanh Nhan Hospital (Hanoi) celebrated Social Work Day (March 25) and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Hospital's Social Work Department.

In hospitals, social work activities play an increasingly important role, most notably activities to support patients in accessing economic support sources; help medical staff focus more on their expertise, reduce stress at work... At the same time, it contributes to building a comprehensive care system, where patients are not only treated but also cared for in their spiritual and social lives.

Since its establishment, the Social Work Department of Thanh Nhan Hospital has become an important bridge between the hospital, patients and the community, not only providing material support but also a strong spiritual support for patients. Many patients and their families have overcome difficulties in their journey to regain their lives thanks to the active help of the Social Work Department and the cooperation of the community.

Patient NTA, born in 1967, suffered from a fatal disease called sigmoid colon cancer. With no relatives to rely on, worrying about both life and illness, it seemed impossible to continue treatment due to financial costs, but thanks to the connection of the Social Work Department with benefactors, the community's cooperation helped the patient reduce the financial burden and have the opportunity to recover his health.

Ms. Vu Thi Thuy, a relative of NVMT patient who suffered a serious traffic accident that resulted in multiple injuries, said that during more than 3 months of treatment, the patient received active support from the Social Work Department, which helped call on benefactors to support treatment costs and regularly encouraged her mentally. Up to now, the patient's condition has had many positive changes.

Ms. Vu Thi Thuy (family member of patient NVMT) sent her gratitude to the medical staff and the Social Work Department of Thanh Nhan Hospital, and the benefactors who supported the treatment process.

The network of social workers at Thanh Nhan Hospital consists of 93 people who are employees of various departments and offices in the hospital. Directly participating in the treatment process, social workers understand the circumstances and conditions of each patient, so it is convenient to coordinate with the Social Work Department to have support plans when necessary.

Master Le Le Thuong, Head Nurse of the Neurology Department, Thanh Nhan Hospital shared: "As members of the social work network, we are proud to not only perform professional duties but also become a bridge of love, accompanying patients in the most difficult times. The touching stories and the revived smiles are the motivation for us to continue to contribute. We hope that in the coming time, the Hospital's social work will continue to receive the attention and cooperation of society, continuing to spread humane values ​​to the community."

Thanh Nhan Hospital leaders acknowledged the positive contributions of the Social Work Department in patient care and treatment.

According to Master Bui Thi Hong, Head of Social Work Department, Thanh Nhan Hospital, currently, along with financial support and administrative procedures, social work activities at Thanh Nhan Hospital also focus on taking care of patients' mental health through regularly organized programs and events such as the program "Bringing music to the hospital", the monthly free haircut program from volunteer groups, the weekly Saturday morning book reading program at the Pediatrics Department,... and many other meaningful activities.
