After 2 days of competition at the Reyes Cup 2024 9-ball pool billiards tournament taking place in Manila, Philippines, Duong Quoc Hoang's Asian team is leading with a total score of 7-2. On the third day of competition (October 17 evening) at the Reyes Cup 2024, Duong Quoc Hoang still showed stability and contributed to the overall victory of the Asian team. In the first match in the team format (touch 5 wins, all 5 players on the field, each player plays 1 game), Hoang Sao played in the second game, after Aloysius Yapp (Singapore) won against the player nicknamed "eagle eye" Jason Shaw (British) in the first game.

Hoang Sao continues to complete his mission well to help the Asian team increase the gap with the European team.

Duong Quoc Hoang's opponent in the second game (of the first match) was Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (Spanish, ranked 5th in the world on the WNT rankings). Hoang Sao made a good start to eat ball number 1 and made a good defensive hide. However, Sanchez Ruiz made the audience excited with an accurate a-bang to put ball number 2 into the pocket. But in the situation right after that, the Spanish player "ran the bullet" and exposed ball number 3. Quoc Hoang ate balls number 3, 4 and 5 in turn, before making a mistake with ball number 6. It seemed like Hoang would be punished, but Sanchez Ruiz made a more serious mistake when he missed ball number 6 in a not too difficult situation. The Vietnamese player did not miss the second chance to win against Sanchez Ruiz.

In the end, the Asian team convincingly won 5-1 against the European team in the team match, thereby raising the total score to 8-2.

One hand on the Reyes Cup 2024 billiards championship

The second match of October 17 was the clash between Johann Chua/Ko Pin Yi and Jason Shaw/Sanchez Ruiz. The stars of the European team showed great determination and won 5-3, reducing the aggregate score to 3-8 against the Asian team. However, this was also the only victory of the European team on the third day of the Reyes Cup 2024.

The man considered the "new Efren Reyes" of Philippine pool billiards - Carlo Biado also had an excellent day of competition.

Carlo Biado/Aloysius Yapp and Jayson Shaw/Eklent Kaci clashed in the third match. The encounter saw a fierce battle between the two teams. The European team took the lead, but the Asian team clung on hard to tie the match at 3-3. As the match entered the decisive phase, Biado and Yapp showed their class with some excellent plays in the 7th and 8th games. The Asian pair came from behind to win a dramatic 5-3 victory over Shaw/Kaci.

The victory of the Biado/Yapp pair also concluded a successful day of competition for the Asian team. After 3 days of competition, Duong Quoc Hoang and his teammates are very close to winning the Reyes Cup 2024 championship, when leading the European team with a total score of 9-3.

October 18 is the final day of competition of the Reyes Cup 2024 9-ball pool billiards tournament.

Competition format of Reyes Cup 2024

Reyes Cup 2024 takes place from October 15 to October 18. This is a tournament to pay tribute to the "living legend" of the world billiards pool village - Efren Reyes (Philippines).

Two teams from Asia and one team from Europe compete. In a maximum of 21 matches (played over 4 days), the team that reaches 11 wins first will be crowned champion. Team, doubles and singles matches are played alternately on each day of competition.

Asian Team: Duong Quoc Hoang, Johann Chua (Philippines), Carlo Biado (Philippines), Ko Pin Yi (Taiwan), Aloysius Yapp (Singapore).
