Phnom Penh According to coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the lack of concentration and underperformance of the players made Vietnam struggle to come back against Indonesia to reach the final of the 32nd SEA Games.

"Not only in the semi-finals but also in the previous matches in the group stage, the players were not themselves," Coach Tuan Kiet shared after the semi-final win over Indonesia 3-2. "There are many reasons for that, including the harsh weather conditions and lack of playing fields, making it almost impossible to practice."
Vietnam is considered to be stronger than Indonesia, having won both previous SEA Games. However, in this reunion, the team was constantly behind the opponent, and had a hard time winning the deciding set after being behind twice.
"Because we were rated higher, the Vietnamese players' approach, even when holding the ball, was comfortable. But because we were careless and subjective, we let our opponents dominate. The most difficult position, the setter, also did not play well. In particular, the first step was not stable, which is an inherent weakness of Vietnam," Mr. Kiet commented. "Of course, everyone is happy to win. But clearly in this semi-final, the players played below their ability, including captain Thanh Thuy."
In the final at 7:30 p.m. tonight, May 14, Vietnam will meet Thailand. Mr. Kiet determined that he is the underdog compared to his opponent, but hopes that the players will play to their full potential. "Thailand is still a tough opponent that we cannot overcome. Therefore, we cannot play like Indonesia but must play to our full potential, even try 100% harder to be able to beat Thailand," he said.
Vietnam has just defeated Diamond Food Club - which has many Thai players in the Asian Club Championship before coming to the 32nd SEA Games. According to Mr. Kiet, that result has two sides, in addition to good spirit and psychology, it is also a burden for the players. "Obviously, the players are expected a lot after that achievement. But some positions played well in the Asian Club Championship but did not succeed at the SEA Games. The coaching staff must learn from experience. Vietnam must play with a different lineup, with even strikers and hope that the players will perform to the best of their ability against Thailand in the final."
