Coach Nguyen Duc Thang says goodbye to Binh Dinh

Right after the V-League 2023 ended, coach Nguyen Duc Thang decided to leave Binh Dinh Club after four years.

Mr. Thang said he has "completed his mission" with football in the land of martial arts, and for now wants to temporarily retire from football.

Binh Dinh plans to put assistant Bui Doan Quang Huy on the hot seat. In addition to the departure of coach Duc Thang, the team is also facing the possibility of saying goodbye to a series of players such as Dang Van Lam, Rafaelson, Nghiem Xuan Tu, Mac Hong Quan.

Coach Duc Thang has led Binh Dinh since 2020, at the same time a real estate company joined in sponsorship, helping the team win the First Division championship and gain the right to be promoted to V-League after 12 years. Binh Dinh then spent money to attract many good players such as Dang Van Lam, Nghiem Xuan Tu, Mac Hong Quan, Ly Cong Hoang Anh, Do Van Thuan, Cao Van Trien, Ha Duc Chinh... They also recruited the best foreign players in V-League such as Rafaelson, Jermie Lynch.

However, Binh Dinh could not fulfill their dream of winning the championship. They missed the 2021 season race because the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the 2022 season, they finished third overall, behind Hanoi FC and Hai Phong, and won the National Cup silver medal.

This season, Binh Dinh is no longer generous in the transfer market, even letting local defender Ho Tan Tai transfer to Hanoi Police Club. With financial difficulties and many key players no longer maintaining good form, Binh Dinh finished seventh overall in the V-League, winning the bronze medal of the 2023 National Cup.

Coach Nguyen Duc Thang was born in 1976 in Hanoi, was a famous full-back of The Cong Club and the Vietnam national team from 1995 to 2005, then retired. Later, Coach Duc Thang became a youth trainer at Viettel Club and Hanoi Club.

In 2014, he led Hanoi FC to win the First Division, played in the V-League and then changed its name to Saigon FC - now dissolved. In the 2018 season, coach Duc Thang moved to lead Thanh Hoa Club, which was heavily invested in, winning the V-League and National Cup double. After half of the 2019 season, he submitted his resignation because he could not find common ground with the leadership.
