China According to legend Hoang Xuan Vinh, Vietnamese shooters - including champion Pham Quang Huy - need to learn and make more efforts to have the courage to compete in big tournaments.

On the morning of September 28, the shooting team brought home two medals for Vietnam in the 10m air pistol event.
Pham Quang Huy, Phan Cong Minh and Lai Cong Minh won the bronze medal in the men's team event with 1,730 points, behind India (1,734 points) and China (1,733 points). With 580 points, Pham Quang Huy entered the individual final. Here, he led for most of the competition, scoring 240.5 points after 24 shots to help Vietnam win its first gold medal at the 19th Asian Games, and climb eight places to 15th in the overall standings. This is also the first gold medal for Vietnamese shooting in 41 years at this playground.
Praising the athletes for cheering and supporting each other in training, preparation and competition, coach Hoang Xuan Vinh affirmed: "On a personal level, I am not really satisfied. However, in the final stage, Quang Huy promoted relatively good tactics. This is a lucky day for shooting and Vietnamese sports."
Mr. Vinh is a legend of Vietnamese shooting, having won a historic gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in the 10m air pistol event. He is now coaching the national team, including Quang Huy.
The former Hanoi shooter said that during training, the coaching staff always educates athletes about the mindset of learning as well as improving their will to overcome their own limits. "In my experience, Vietnamese athletes have good abilities, but they need to study and learn more. Their own efforts play an important role in success," he said, adding that winning an Asian Games gold medal is very difficult because in this playground there are some events that are the strengths of the sports powerhouses.
Quang Huy comes from a family of sportsmen, as his father is former shooter Pham Cao Son who won 11 gold medals at the SEA Games, and his mother is the once famous female shooter Dang Thi Hang.
After their son won the gold medal, Mr. Son and Mrs. Hang sent their thanks to coach Hoang Xuan Vinh. In terms of professional status, Mr. Vinh is the next generation of Pham Quang Huy's parents.
"I just received thanks from Mr. Son. His family has passed on the fire and passion for shooting to Quang Huy since he was a child. It is a blessing when the family has the motivation, encouragement, and success. Thank you to your family in the past and present," said Mr. Vinh, and hopes that Quang Huy's victory will inspire enthusiasm and confidence in athletes when entering the big arena.
Quang Huy shared: "Last night, my parents texted me to be confident in being myself. What will come will come, don't be sad about what isn't yours. Now I want to tell my parents that I did it, I won my first Asian Games gold medal."
However, Quang Huy admitted that he was confused in his first time competing in a big tournament like Asiad, so he was afraid in the first five-shot series. After achieving a positive score, he focused completely on technique and played more steadily in the following series.
"I often joke that sometimes I have to be a little 'autistic'. It's hard because thoughts keep pouring out, but gradually through practice I've been able to push them aside," said the new Asian Games champion.
