This principal believes that special attention must be paid to training culturally appropriate behavior skills because this is an important factor in helping to build a culture of behavior in schools.
Teacher Pham Hong Hai, Principal of Secondary School in Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong, said that currently, the building of a culture of behavior has received special attention from schools, especially when a series of incidents related to unethical behavior in schools have appeared. However, in reality, there are still some incidents that have had a significant impact on the educational environment.
For example, students fight, not only with their hands and feet, but also with dangerous weapons such as knives, swords, and iron rods, just to intimidate each other for reasons such as "looking at each other", gossiping, jealousy, not lending money, not letting students copy their work. There are even students who are beaten by a group of friends, then filmed and posted on social networks in front of many other students.
Not only that, the phenomenon of students being rude, disrespecting teachers, calling teachers with offensive words, either directly or through social networks; tearing up test papers in front of teachers, arguing with teachers when being scolded... has also become negative, ugly phenomena in the school environment.
In addition, according to Mr. Hai, the problem of behavior between teachers today also appears to have certain deviations, when there is jealousy, unhealthy competition about job positions, income... These things become the seeds of internal disunity and division in the teaching staff.
In addition, some parents also have inappropriate cultural behaviors towards teachers and schools. They cannot keep calm when seeing their children being “hurt”, which leads to inappropriate behavior, damaging the relationship between family and school.
To build a culture of behavior in schools, Mr. Hai said that it is necessary to pay special attention to training culturally appropriate behavior skills because this is a direct manifestation, deciding whether the culture of behavior in schools is well implemented or not.
This includes the skill of managing emotions and the ego so as not to overreact to each problem and think differently; the skill of posing and solving problems to resolve conflicts and contradictions; the skill of knowing how to adapt and integrate into the social environment, knowing how to respect the differences of each individual, knowing how to put one's ego in harmony with the collective... to create solidarity, sharing, and responsible interaction.
In addition, teachers and students must also practice communication skills because this is the core of behavioral culture and the most obvious manifestation in behavior. Therefore, schools need to pay attention to orienting and practicing communication skills in the direction of honesty, enthusiasm, gentleness, empathy, and humility in speech and behavior, focusing on the following factors: speaking in a standard and easy-to-hear manner; writing (messages, documents, social networks) correctly and well...
According to Mr. Hai, schools need to develop a code of conduct to serve as a binding basis for regulating cultural behavior in schools. The code of conduct must specifically outline the content related to the behavior of school administrators; behavior of teachers; behavior of staff; behavior of students; behavior of parents...
Schools need to build facilities and environmental landscapes as "cultural spaces"; the system of logos, slogans, and design images in schools must be reasonable, aesthetic, and pedagogical to help teachers and students want to go to school and see that every day at school is a happy day.
“At that time, the creation of school culture, including behavioral culture, will change positively, gradually moving towards building a happy school, making students happy, teachers happy and the school becomes the second home of every staff, teacher and student,” said teacher Pham Hong Hai.
