Mr. Nguyen Van Van, Chairman of the People's Committee of Doan Hung district, said that due to the impact of storm No. 3 and the circulation after the storm, the water level of Lo River and Chay River rose, causing flooding in 10 riverside communes in the district. When the floodwaters receded quickly, it caused serious landslides, especially riverbank landslides in 5 communes of Hung Xuyen, Chi Dam, Phu Lam, Hop Nhat, and Hung Long.
Specifically, at Km43, Provincial Road 323 in Tien Phong area, Hung Long commune (Doan Hung district), in recent days, a landslide occurred that ate away at the entire dike with an initial landslide length of about 50m, causing a road break and traffic disruption.
Speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Vu Trong Khai, Head of Infrastructure Economic Department, Doan Hung District People's Committee said: The landslide situation is complicated and shows signs of getting stronger when the length of the landslide has reached about 100m.
According to Mr. Khai, Doan Hung district has reported to the Provincial People's Committee, the provincial leaders have directly gone to the scene to inspect and the province has assigned the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to come up with an emergency handling plan.
Also in Doan Hung district, riverbank erosion is also becoming more complicated on the Chay River, threatening houses, traffic, irrigation works and agricultural areas of people living along the riverbank.
In Nghinh Lap and Binh Minh areas (Hung Xuyen commune), the length of riverbank erosion has reached nearly 1.5km, with an average width of 35m and a height of about 8m. The erosion directly affected 30 households and 152 people, of which 6 households were severely affected and 2 households had to be relocated.
Mr. Pham Van Truong, Nghinh Lac area, Hung Xuyen commune shared that for more than 30 years, he has never seen the Chay River water rise as high as this year, causing his house and garden to be submerged in water. After the flood, his house is still there, but the road in front of his house has been swallowed by the "river god".
"In the past few days, my whole family has moved to another place. Now our house is right next to the river, there is no road, we don't know how to cope," said Mr. Truong.
Doan Hung district has reported the damage caused by floods to the provincial People's Committee, and at the same time hopes that the Central and the province will soon have a plan to urgently handle the landslides that are threatening people's lives and property.
