The journey to capture 2 robbers who snatched more than 56 taels of gold in Khanh Hoa

On June 8, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Police Department announced that after nearly 3 months of prosecuting the case and the accused, the Investigation Agency is now focusing on expanding the investigation into the criminal acts of 2 subjects in the case of "Robbery" worth nearly 1.7 billion VND. Previously, the 2 subjects were arrested when they were on the plane, preparing to take off.

According to the Criminal Police Department (CSHS) of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, more than three months ago, on the afternoon of March 1, a Yen Dien brand passenger car on the journey from Binh Dinh to Ho Chi Minh City stopped on National Highway 1A at Da Mo slope, in Ninh Duc village, Ninh Loc commune, Ninh Hoa town (Khanh Hoa) to rest.

Among the passengers who got off the bus to use the restroom was Ms. Pham Ngoc Han (residing in Bac Phuong Danh quarter, Dap Da ward, An Nhon town, Binh Dinh province). When Ms. Han brought her bag to the side of the road, two young men on a motorbike stopped next to her. The young man sitting behind ran up and snatched the brown bag from Ms. Han's shoulder, then jumped on the motorbike and urged his accomplices to speed up and escape.

What surprised the other passengers on the bus was Mrs. Han's statement that inside the stolen bag were 56,661 taels of 18K gold, a 7-chi necklace and more than 150 million VND. This was the old gold that Mrs. Han bought from many sources and received more from 4 gold shops in Binh Dinh to bring to Ho Chi Minh City to exchange for new gold.

Immediately after receiving news of the robbery, Ninh Hoa town police assigned a task force consisting of experienced criminal detectives and investigators to urgently collect information from the victim and several witnesses.

The difficulty was that apart from identifying the robbers as two young men riding a Yamaha Sirius motorbike, the victims and witnesses could not record anything else, including the motorbike's license plate, the two perpetrators were wearing masks, the person who directly snatched the handbag acted very quickly and escaped very quickly. Checking a long distance in front and behind the scene of the robbery, there were no roadside cameras to extract images, identify and track down the perpetrators.

Because the property was of great value, the Criminal Police Department of Khanh Hoa Province Police coordinated with Ninh Hoa Town Police to actively investigate and prosecute using many professional measures, including "intercepting" the suspect at gold shops.

When conducting a search and screening of dozens of criminal and drug suspects in Ninh Loc commune and localities along National Highway 1A through Ninh Hoa town, criminal investigators identified the suspect as Pham Ngoc Dinh (born in 1994, residing in Thuy Dam group, Ninh Thuy ward, Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa province).

The search for the suspect also encountered many difficulties, because this subject was rarely present in the locality, and his phone number had also changed, but with the highest determination, the detectives found the place where the suspect rented a house on Nguyen Chich Street, Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City to stay with Nguyen Ba Hoang (born in 1996, residing in Quarter 1, Phu Lam Ward, Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province).

On the afternoon of March 4, detectives received information from the owner of a gold shop in Nha Trang City that two young men brought two gold bars to sell but were refused. When detectives from the Criminal Police Department of Khanh Hoa Province Police arrived, the two customers had already left the gold shop. Extracting the camera at the gold shop, detectives identified the suspects as Pham Ngoc Dinh and Nguyen Ba Hoang.

While tracking down the suspects from the taxi that picked up the two suspects at the gold shop, detectives discovered Dinh and Hoang on their way to Cam Ranh airport.

Urgently contacting Cam Ranh International Airport, the Criminal Police Department of Khanh Hoa Province Police learned that the two suspects registered for the Cam Ranh - Tan Son Nhat flight, which would take off at 3:30 p.m. the same day, while the distance from Nha Trang City to Cam Ranh Airport is more than 30km, so the detectives had to call the Airport Security, Police Station, and Cam Ranh International Airport Border Police to coordinate and support the interception.

At that time, all passengers had boarded the Vietjet Air plane, but the airport security force and the police promptly contacted the captain to ask for a few minutes to check and escort the two passengers Pham Ngoc Dinh and Nguyen Ba Hoang off the plane.

Checking the two suspects' handbags, the police discovered two gold bars that they had snatched. According to Dinh and Hoang's confession, after snatching Ms. Han's handbag, they rode their motorbikes to Binh Son cemetery, Ninh Tho commune, Ninh Hoa town, took the money and gold, put them in a gray cloth bag, then ran to Dinh's house in Thuy Dam group, Ninh Thuy ward.

The bag of gold was hidden on the ceiling, and Dinh transferred 80 million VND to his personal account to buy two Iphone 14 Promax and Oppo phones for 40 million VND, and spent the rest. On March 4, Dinh and Hoang went to Nha Trang to sell the necklace for 21 million VND. They could not sell the two gold bars, so they brought them to Ho Chi Minh City, but before they could leave Cam Ranh airport, they were caught.
