The family of Mr. Ban Van Mui, in Ban Mun village, Duong Phong commune (Bach Thong) has a stable income from growing yellow tea flowers. According to Mr. Mui, many years ago, local people often picked flowers and leaves to boil water to drink, but many people did not know about the economic value.

Mr. Mui shared: “In recent years, after studying the market and the growth and development of this tea tree, I decided to “domesticate” it and bring it back to my garden to try planting. I picked the fruit, incubated it, and then chose a moist area to plant it. Unexpectedly, the yellow flower tea tree grew well without fertilizing or cultivating it. From there, I gradually propagated the seeds.
With the family's efforts and the cooperation with the BK Foods High-Tech Cooperative in planting and consuming products, the family's yellow tea flower area has developed well and yielded high yields. Up to now, my family has more than 600 trees in the growing stage, more than 300 trees have been harvested, my family has an additional stable source of income."

Mr. Ly Dinh Van, Head of Ban Mun Village, Duong Phong Commune (Bach Thong) said: "The yellow tea tree is a wild plant growing in the forest. Since his father's time, he has taken it home to make water to drink. In recent years, knowing the economic efficiency in the market, people have focused on caring for, protecting and planting it in their family's hill gardens. Among them, Mr. Ban Van Mui's family was the first to bring it home to plant. Seeing the economic efficiency and successfully domesticating it, many households have learned to follow suit. Up to now, the whole village has about 20 households growing yellow tea trees."

Mr. Van added that Ban Mun village has 84 households, mainly Dao people, and currently there are only 2 poor households. The yellow tea tree has contributed significantly to the village's poverty reduction and is a promising tree for getting rich. For example, Mr. Ly Van Long's household has earned hundreds of millions of dong from flowers, leaves, and fruits in the past 2 years.
The flowering season of the yellow tea tree lasts from December of the previous year to March of the following year. The leaf season is harvested more frequently and lasts until about June.
The flowers of the yellow tea tree have high economic value. Currently, 1kg of fresh flowers costs from 350,000 VND to 500,000 VND; 90,000 VND/kg of fruit and 20,000 VND/kg of fresh leaves. The yellow tea flower is also called Kim Hoa Camellia, and is known as the Queen of teas.

Cho Don is one of the localities with many naturally growing yellow tea trees, concentrated in some communes such as Binh Trung, Nghia Ta, Luong Bang, Dong Thang... many households have a stable income from growing yellow tea trees, the whole Cho Don district currently has about more than 10 hectares of newly planted yellow tea trees.

Ms. Duong Khanh Ly, Nghia Ta Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative shared: "Currently, the Cooperative has about 5 hectares of yellow flower tea trees. The Cooperative's yellow flower tea products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP. The Cooperative is expanding the planting area and cooperating and purchasing with local people to have enough raw materials for the Cooperative to process and build product brands."

Ms. Le Thi Huong, Director of BK Foods High-Tech Cooperative said: “We value natural materials, so we cooperate with farmers to promote the responsibility of developing a sustainable environment. Many households grow yellow tea trees in their home gardens for high income, and can get rich if they know how to care for, protect, and exploit the benefits and economic value of this plant.
The golden flower tea product of BK Foods High-Tech Cooperative is processed using modern freeze-drying technology, fully preserving the essence of the active ingredient Saponin Glicoalkaloid in the golden flower tea, qualifying as a premium golden flower tea product. In 2024, the golden flower tea product of the Cooperative was recognized as a 4-star OCOP and was available on e-commerce platforms and major distribution agents nationwide."

Currently, some cooperatives have been cooperating with farmers to expand the area and stably consume products for farmers. From being almost exhausted in nature, now the yellow tea flower tree is being planted more and more, from a wild plant to a crop that helps improve the livelihoods of households.

Through this, people and businesses contribute to developing clean and sustainable medicinal herb areas for processing, meeting domestic market demand and aiming for export; helping to preserve and maintain valuable genetic resources of medicinal plants, including yellow tea flowers.
Mr. Ban Van Phong, Vice Chairman of the Cooperative Union of Bac Kan province, said: Currently, there are 4 cooperatives in the province that have been and are linking with farmers to grow, process, and develop golden flower tea products that meet 3-star and 4-star OCOP standards.
