Go to school on your back
Ho Thanh Lam is a student of class 2A6, Pa Nho campus, Khe Sanh Primary School No. 1, Huong Hoa district (Quang Tri). Lam's family is in extremely difficult circumstances. Since he was a child, he was unfortunately disabled in both legs and could not walk.
Lam's father left home when he was still in his mother's womb, leaving Ho Thi E (Lam's mother) to raise 5 children alone. Despite his disability, Lam always wanted to go to school, and since he was a child, he asked his mother to let him go to school.

"When he was born, Lam's left leg was bent forward towards his stomach, his right leg was behind his back, and he had to rely on his hands or his mother to walk. When he saw his friends going to school, he insisted on following them. Feeling sorry for him, I went to the class to ask for him to enroll and luckily the school created conditions for him," Ms. E confided.
Lam is sociable and determined, so he is loved and wholeheartedly helped by his teachers and classmates. In particular, during his 2 years of school, Lam has had a beautiful friendship with 2 classmates, Ho Van Phat and Ho Anh Tan.
Many times, Phat and Tan saw Lam waiting for his mother because she was late. They carried him home on their backs. After a few times, it became a habit and Phat and Tan decided to take over the job of taking him to school.
Phat was the biggest so he was in charge of carrying Lam, while Tan carried his friend's school bag. Not only that, Phat also carried his friend to the toilet and to the playground. When Lam's legs hurt, the two close friends also helped massage and rub his legs.
"Lam is disadvantaged and cannot walk, so we feel sorry for him and want to help him go to school. We also support each other to study well. The homeroom teacher encouraged us and praised us for doing a good job, which is very meaningful, so we are very happy," Tan shared.

The school also always creates conditions and gives Lam special affection so that he does not suffer disadvantages and has the best conditions for development.
The miraculous journey of a disabled student
The beautiful friendship of Phat, Tan and Lam over the years has also made teachers, parents and students extremely impressed. The story of the "3 musketeers" of Khe Sanh Primary School No. 1 has also spread on social networks and made many people admire.
At the end of March, joy came to Lam and his family when he received help to regain his healthy legs. This was truly a miracle for the disabled student.
Lam's story was shared by Mr. Nguyen Binh Nam, Head of the Friends Club (Da Nang), connected and received support from Professor, Doctor Rene D. Esser, an expert in orthopedic surgery, working at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nam shared that through social networks as well as colleagues, he learned about the story of Lam and his two close friends. After considering and researching, Mr. Nam decided to stand up and call for support for Lam on his journey to regain his healthy legs.
"After posting the children's story online, I received a message from Professor Rene D. Esser about offering to perform free leg surgery on Lam, and the hospital where this expert works will sponsor the cost," Nam recalled.

On April 7, Lam's journey to regain his healthy feet began. Lam and his mother were taken to Da Nang by Nam, then flown to Ho Chi Minh City for examination and preparation for surgery.
Here, Lam was directly examined and operated on by Professor, Doctor Rene D. Esser. The surgery was successful, and the opportunity to walk on his own two feet was not far away. Not only was he supported in the surgery, but Lam and her mother were also prepared with food and accommodation.
"Thanks to everyone's love and affection, Lam's journey to regain healthy feet is very close, although there are still many challenges and difficulties ahead. Lam's surgery is beyond the expectations of his family and those who care about him," Nam added.
Mr. Nam informed that after more than half a month of treatment in Ho Chi Minh City, Lam and his mother were brought back to live with him in Da Nang to facilitate training and recovery of his legs. Currently, Lam's health has stabilized and he can walk on his own two feet.
