Children can participate in gifted classes at the 1st Grade Preparation Club.
Teacher Nguyen Viet Hai, Principal of Le Van Tam Primary School, said: “The first grade preparation club is organized by the school to help children gradually adapt and integrate with their friends in the new environment. We do not force children to learn letters and numbers, but equip them with knowledge to help them develop logical thinking in a gentle and natural way; practice proactive learning skills, build habits and school discipline. Teachers will focus on helping children get used to the new learning environment, sitting posture, stabilizing their psychology, and improving their emotions so that they can easily adapt when entering the new school year.”
Anxiety when children enter primary school is inevitable for every parent. Teacher Le Nhu Quynh, a teacher at Le Van Tam Primary School, said: “When children enter this stage, parents should not be too worried, leading to psychological pressure, forcing children to study beyond their ability to absorb, leading to children being afraid of going to school before entering grade 1. Instead, parents should accompany children to understand that entering grade 1 will be a time to discover new and interesting things. If children learn knowledge in advance, they will be confident in the beginning, but for many children, when they know the knowledge in advance, they will no longer be interested in the lessons taught by the teacher. From there, it leads to a subjective mentality, thinking that they have learned and known, gradually forming bad habits and affecting the long-term learning process."
Students of Hoa Sen Kindergarten (Tuyen Quang City) experience a lesson at Le Van Tam Primary School.
Having been worried when hearing friends share about the pressure when their children were about to enter first grade, Ms. Chu Thi Hien, Minh Xuan ward (Tuyen Quang city) and her husband planned to send their children to extra classes in advance to gain knowledge, hoping that their children would be confident. However, after going to primary school to learn and listen to advice from teachers, she changed her mind and got rid of her worries. Ms. Hien shared: “When the teacher advised me, I realized that I should not be too imposing on my children. Instead of sending my children to extra classes and forcing them to cram knowledge, I registered them for the First Grade Preparation Club so that they could get acquainted with the necessary skills. Moreover, when my children were in kindergarten at the age of 5, I always closely followed the curriculum in class and studied with them at home. I often shared with my children funny stories and interesting things at school when they entered first grade to create curiosity and interest in them.”
Not only organizing the First Grade Preparation Club, Le Van Tam Primary School also cooperates with local kindergartens to organize experiential activities and tours for 5-year-old preschoolers. Teacher Khuat Thi Huong, Principal of Hoa Sen Kindergarten (Tuyen Quang City) said: “Since the beginning of the school year, the school has coordinated with Le Van Tam Primary School to develop a plan to organize tours and explore the new school environment for children in the 5-6 year old group. The tours and experiences have helped children become bolder and more confident. The school also cooperates with families to teach children the skills of independence, self-care, preparing books, clothes, going to bed on time and building a reasonable schedule. This helps children not be passive and lack necessary skills when entering the new school level.”
The 1st grade preparation club has many rich activities to help children develop necessary skills.
In addition to careful preparation from the school, each parent needs to equip themselves with skills and knowledge to accompany their children. Instead of putting pressure on themselves, parents should spend more time accompanying and paying attention to their children's psychological changes to create a happy and positive environment and atmosphere for children to integrate into the new environment. From there, there will be a solid foundation for the child's learning journey.
