TPO - On the morning of March 24, Tien Phong Newspaper, the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Youth Union, in coordination with the Southwest Mobile Police Regiment, organized the 16th Red Sunday Festival in 2024 at Battalion 1 (Can Tho City). Mr. Tran Viet Tuan - Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of Can Tho City said that the Red Sunday program is one of the community activities that has a great impact on society. The program is held annually, aiming to call for the participation of healthy people to support blood sources for treatment and saving lives at hospitals.
The program carries the message of promoting solidarity and love for each other, widely promoting the voluntary blood donation movement among all social classes, in which youth union members and students are the core force.

“For the health of the community and for the health of each person, I call on all groups and individuals to actively respond and register to donate blood to save lives. I hope that the youth union members and students attending today's program will continue to uphold the tradition of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, promote the spirit of volunteering for the community to donate blood and mobilize the whole society to donate blood. This is both a sentiment and a sacred responsibility of ours to the whole society," Mr. Tran Viet Tuan called.

Speaking at the program, Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Tien - Head of the News - Politics Department, in charge of the Tien Phong Newspaper Representative Office in the Mekong Delta, said that with the message "Donate blood - Your life and mine", the Red Sunday program has become an event of profound humanitarian significance on a national scale, aiming to overcome the blood shortage across the country.

Red Sunday was initiated by Tien Phong newspaper in 2009, in coordination with the National Traffic Safety Committee, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and provinces and cities nationwide.
The program has received attention from Party and State leaders from the central to local levels. From the first blood donation point in Hanoi in 2009 with less than 100 units of blood collected, Red Sunday has now spread to 36 provinces and cities nationwide, with 75 blood donation points and over 50,500 units of blood received. In the Mekong Delta region, in addition to Can Tho City, Red Sunday has also spread to other provinces such as Kien Giang, An Giang, Dong Thap, Tra Vinh, Ca Mau, Soc Trang...
