Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang delivered the opening speech at the Workshop.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang informed that after the Covid-19 pandemic, with solutions and support from management agencies, Vietnamese airlines have made efforts to restore operations. However, unresolved internal difficulties are still a major obstacle preventing Vietnamese airlines from recovering to the state they were in before the pandemic. Along with that, since the end of 2023, the impacts of increased input costs and fluctuations in fleet size have been the main causes of pressure on domestic airfares during peak periods.

However, in the context of many difficulties, the number of aircraft decreased, as well as the need to balance exploitation to meet the travel needs of passengers, in general, the exploitation of the aviation market recorded growth in passenger transport, especially international air transport. This is a result that encourages trade connection, bringing international tourists to Vietnam.

"The workshop is an important forum for management agencies, aviation and travel businesses, individuals and interested units to share information and exchange opinions related to building and developing a bridge between aviation and tourism. Improve the efficiency of connections between industries, promote the achieved results, work together and share towards sustainable and long-term development," said Minister Nguyen Van Thang.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh spoke at the Workshop.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh shared that according to economic experts, tourism and aviation are like wings that contribute to economic development. Aviation has many advantages and is considered a launching pad for the tourism industry, attracting investment, trade and international relations. The aviation industry grows, promoting tourism and is an opportunity for passengers to explore new destinations.

On the other hand, tourism plays a role in promoting the development of aviation, creating demand and services, contributing to economic development, creating opportunities for innovation and improvement. However, at present, the cooperation between tourism and aviation is mainly due to the National Tourism Administration, airlines, localities, and travel companies joining hands. This cooperation is still small-scale, incidental, and there is no mechanism for coordination and cooperation on a large scale.

"Therefore, in order to recognize the development of aviation and tourism, the workshop was organized to discuss and thoroughly evaluate the current situation to effectively develop the two industries, while helping the Government and Government agencies to form new policies and solutions, contributing to the sustainable development of the aviation and tourism industries. Especially, in the context of cooperation between businesses is still extremely difficult, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive, national-level plan to have long-term impact" - Mr. Le Quoc Minh said.

Total revenue from tourists in the first 5 months of 2024 is estimated at more than VND352 trillion.

The tourism industry is considered a bright spot with important positive contributions to the overall socio-economic recovery of the locality. To achieve the above results, there is a significant contribution from airlines when up to 80% of tourists travel by this means of transport.

However, according to Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, despite the positive results, the reality of tourism development in recent times still reveals some shortcomings, development is not commensurate with the potential, strengths and expectations of society such as: the demand of international tourists to distant destinations is gradually decreasing; the increasingly fierce competition between destinations in the same region; the demand for air travel of tourists shows increasingly clear seasonality. These trends create challenges for both the tourism and aviation industries...

At the workshop, leaders, experts, economists; representatives of aviation and tourism associations; airlines, tourism and travel businesses shared difficulties and challenges and made proposals and recommendations to contribute to promoting the development and cooperation of tourism and aviation in the coming time.
