In the first 9 months of 2024, Dak Nong's agricultural sector recorded many outstanding achievements but also faced major challenges due to drought and natural disasters. GRDP growth rate reached 5.21%, ranking second in the Central Highlands, however, damage due to drought and natural disasters is estimated at more than 441 billion VND.
On the morning of October 24, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province held a press conference on the socio-economic situation, national defense and security in the first 9 months of 2024 and directions and tasks for the last 3 months of the year.
Dak Nong province faces prolonged drought in 2024, damaging nearly 8,900 hectares of crop area.
According to the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, the province's GRDP growth rate reached 5.21%, ranking second in the Central Highlands region, with a total product in the area reaching nearly 15,000 billion VND.
Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector is estimated to reach nearly VND4,000 billion, up 8.13%. The general plasticization rate and irrigation demand met 72% and more than 83% respectively, creating an important foundation for agricultural production activities.
Developing crops and livestock in the field of cultivation, pepper output is estimated at 72,000 tons and cashew output at 15,700 tons, both increased compared to the same period last year.
In particular, the province's durian area increased by more than 1,300 hectares, with output reaching 45,000 tons. In addition, the output of some other fruit trees decreased slightly.
Forest management and development The Provincial People's Committee has assigned a forest development plan with an area of 3,067 hectares, of which 1,458 hectares are planted. The forest coverage rate reached 39.07%, nearly reaching the set target. However, the situation of violations of the Forestry Law is still complicated with 225 cases of deforestation, an increase compared to the same period last year.
Worryingly, the prolonged drought and heat in the first 9 months of the year saw Dak Nong province facing a prolonged drought, damaging nearly 8,900 hectares of crop area, severely affecting crop area and productivity. The estimated damage was up to 430 billion VND. In addition, 9 natural disasters during the year also caused an additional 11.2 billion VND in damage.

Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee and specialized agencies have focused on directing and strengthening solutions to respond to the risk of drought and water shortage in the province. Along with that, the Provincial People's Committee has directed functional agencies to arrange funds to support damage caused by drought and water shortage to agricultural production.
At the same time, the province also proposed that the Central Government consider and support Dak Nong province from the central budget with about 377 billion VND to prevent, combat and overcome the consequences of drought.
