The “Shark Jaw” building was built in the early 1990s, on a 310m2 plot of land, with 6 floors. The building was built on the site of an old tram factory, overlooking Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square and has a panoramic view of Hoan Kiem Lake.

Previously, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan agreed on the plan to create underground space and expand Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square after demolishing the "Shark Jaw" building.

City leaders are planning to research and build 3 basements in the "Shark Jaw" area, with the function of a cultural and commercial space (basement 1); parking area (basement 2 and 3).

The city is also planning to relocate 11 agencies and dozens of households east of Hoan Kiem Lake to build a special square and park in this area.

In addition, the city plans to build an underground space with 3 basements in the area east of Hoan Kiem Lake. These basements connect to underground station C9 (located under Dinh Tien Hoang street), belonging to the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao railway line.
