In recent years, with the attention, investment and close guidance of the Government and all levels, sectors and localities, the achievements of Vietnamese Sports have progressed and are demonstrated by the results achieved at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Youth Games and International Sports Championships. Although Vietnamese Sports have made progress and achievements, our results at the Asian Games (ASIAD) and World Games (Olympics) are still modest, showing signs of falling behind many strong sports in the continent and the world.
Overview of the Workshop
The main reason is that Vietnamese Sports lacks a national program for training athletes focused on improving performance in key sports in preparation for the Olympics and ASIAD. Meanwhile, in many strong sports in Asia, investment in key athletes for the Olympics and ASIAD is developed according to a separate program. In practice, the ranking of sports achievements at the Games and sporting events, in addition to affirming the competition results, is also the image and position of each sport and country in particular.
Countries with potential all invest heavily and implement many drastic measures to compete for achievements. In addition to strong investment, these countries also combine the application of science and technology, improve equipment and facilities for athletes to compete for achievements. In Asia, even in the Southeast Asian region, many countries have made progress in sports achievements, innovated the way of doing high-performance sports, strengthened finances along with appropriate policy mechanisms.
Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Dang Ha Viet speaks at the Workshop
In that context, Vietnamese Sports needs to have a systematic investment with strong breakthroughs as a premise to improve achievements. The program to develop key sports to prepare for the Olympics and ASIAD in the period of 2026-2046 is built to achieve the above goal. At the same time, the program contributes to concretizing the Strategy for developing physical education and sports in Vietnam to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
In recent times, the Vietnam Sports Administration has coordinated with relevant agencies to develop and complete the Program for developing key sports to participate in the Olympics and ASIAD in the period 2026-2046. The draft Program has been developed and completed on the basis of organizing research according to problem groups and organizing to collect comments from agencies, units, and National Sports Associations.
Head of High Performance Sports Department Hoang Quoc Vinh reported on the Program for developing key sports to prepare for the Olympics and ASIAD in the period 2026 - 2046.
In order to continue to complete, submit to the Prime Minister for consideration, promulgation and effective implementation, the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department organized a workshop to discuss, exchange and listen to the enthusiastic opinions of former leaders of the industry, managers, experts and leading scientists in the field of sports and physical training to contribute ideas on the Program for developing key sports to achieve high achievements at the Olympics and ASIAD in the period 2026-2046.
With the participation of more than 200 delegates who are managers, experts, and leading officials in the field of sports, the Workshop focused on discussing 4 main issues: The context and factors affecting the development of Vietnam's sports, opportunities and challenges in the coming period; The current status of high-performance sports development in our country; Identifying key sports, the basis for selecting key sports, criteria for selecting key sports, the draft Program is planning 17 key sports for investment in the coming time; Solutions for investing and developing key sports to win gold medals at ASIAD and medals at the Olympics.
