It is easy to see that each festival is a spiritual and cultural story passed down through many generations. Many of them are legends that are still passed down today as evidence of the unchanging cultural values of the community living on the land.
According to Mr. Doan Ta - a resident of Chiem Son village, Duy Trinh commune (Duy Xuyen), the origin of the Ba Chiem Son festival is a story about a goddess who protected and blessed the people in the surrounding area with peace, good crops, and the elimination of diseases.
“After hundreds of years, Dinh Ba is still worshiped by the people in the surrounding area. Every year on January 12, descendants of Chiem Son village from all over the country gather at the temple to respectfully offer incense and sacrifice,” said Mr. Ta.
Unlike some other localities, most traditional festivals in Quang Nam over hundreds of years still retain their original cultural values, expressing the spirit of turning to one's roots and nation.
At the procession of the Lady Cho Duoc float in Phuoc Am village, Binh Trieu commune (Thang Binh) on February 8 (January 11), the legend of a girl named Nguyen Thi Cua (1800 - 1817) who, after her death, appeared to save the people, punish corrupt officials who oppressed the people, and gathered the villagers to do business, contributing to the formation of today's Duoc market was reenacted. With these achievements, the royal court awarded her the title "Goddess Linh Ung - Nguyen Thi Dang Than".
According to village elders, although the festival takes place on a different scale each year, it is always solemn and respectful, attracting a large number of people from around the area to come and worship.
The nostalgia and the spirit of worshiping the gods make everyone who comes to the Ba float procession feel peaceful and joyful. After hundreds of years of existence, the spiritual values of the festival are still preserved and promoted by the people of Phuoc Am village, becoming a spiritual support for many generations of people here.
In particular, at the Thanh Minh festival (held in the third lunar month) in Dien Quang commune (Dien Ban town), in addition to commemorating the merits of the founding ancestors; the ancestors with great contributions, the festival is also an opportunity for today's generation to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their blood and bones to contribute to making the homeland famous.
It can be said that since ancient times, festivals have been an indispensable cultural activity in the spiritual life of the people of Quang Nam, expressing the consciousness of the rice-growing agricultural residents towards the merits of their ancestors, praying for favorable weather, a peaceful and good life...
Nowadays, society is developing, the scale and organization of each festival may be different, but the influence is still very large, contributing to the spiritual life of the people, educating generations about the traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember the source"...
