He was surprised that he could still expand his relationships, have fun, be funny, and be engaging without alcohol.

However, he was often made difficult by his friends. Some even secretly mixed vodka into his soft drinks and gave them to him to drink.

After 6 months, Swanwick was in good shape, full of energy, and his health had improved significantly. After a year, he had successfully lost 11 kg. He wanted to reward himself with a glass of light wine but couldn't take a sip.

"At that moment, I said to myself, 'Let's think about this again' and put down the glass of wine. I realized that in just one year, I had lost 11 kg, felt better, slept better, had more quality relationships. Now, I'm a TV presenter. I wouldn't trade it for a glass of wine," he said.

Swanwick has been open about his journey and created a “30-day sober challenge.” His nine key tips for quitting include: keeping alcohol out of the house; asking yourself why you have a drink; not seeing alcohol as a reward; focusing on the decision to quit; mastering your thoughts; changing your personal habits; finding joy in living sober; journaling 20 things you’re grateful for every day; and communicating your decision to quit to others.
