USD prices at some banks are more expensive by more than 200 VND, USD selling prices at all banks are at the ceiling price. Free USD prices also increased sharply.
The central exchange rate between the Vietnamese Dong and the USD announced by the State Bank today (October 22) is 24,240 VND/USD, an increase of 12 VND compared to yesterday.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade USD today with a floor rate of 23,028 VND/USD, and a ceiling rate of 25,452 VND/USD.
The reference USD buying rate is still maintained by the State Bank of Vietnam at 23,400 VND/USD. The reference USD selling rate increased by 14 VND to 25,402 VND/USD.
Many commercial banks today adjusted the USD price to be more expensive by more than 200 VND compared to yesterday morning (October 21). Notably, the USD selling price at all banks has reached the ceiling price.
Specifically, this morning, Vietcombank raised the USD cash buying price to 25,062 VND/USD, and the selling price to 25,452 VND/USD, an increase of 102 VND in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.
Similarly, compared to yesterday morning, BIDV raised the USD price by 265 VND for buying and 132 VND more expensive for selling, bringing the buying and selling prices to 25,225-25,452 VND/USD.
VietinBank also raised the USD buying and selling prices to 25,203-25,452 VND/USD, an increase of 233 VND for buying and 122 VND more expensive for selling.
USD prices in private banks were also adjusted to increase sharply.
Compared to yesterday morning, Techcombank increased 210 VND in buying price and 87 VND higher in selling price, bringing the cash USD buying price to 25,177 VND/USD, the selling price is 25,452 VND/USD.
Sacombank raised the USD price to 25,080-25,452 VND/USD (buy - sell), up 90 VND for buying and 112 VND more expensive for selling.
Eximbank also increased the USD price by 200 VND for buying and 102 VND more expensive for selling, bringing the buying and selling price of USD cash to 25,150-25,452 VND/USD.
In the same trend, the USD price in the free market also increased sharply. This morning, the free USD price was bought and sold at 25,460-25,560 VND/USD, an increase of 200 VND in both directions compared to the previous session.
Currently, the USD buying price at banks is only about 400 VND lower, while the USD selling price is 108 VND lower than the free market.
In the world market, the USD price tends to cool down after increasing sharply at the beginning of the week.
The US Dollar Index (a measure of the greenback's strength against other major currencies) at 11:47 a.m. on October 22 (Vietnam time) was at 103.93 points, down 0.08% from the previous session.
On October 21, the US Dollar Index hit 104 points supported by rising US bond yields thanks to a series of solid economic data.
