In Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Dak Nong, coffee was purchased at the highest price of 135,500 VND/kg. Although Lam Dong had a lower price, it still reached 134,500 VND/kg, much higher than the beginning of the week.
This increase is considered quite surprising in the context of the market having just experienced many days of slight adjustment and being under pressure from dry weather in the Central Highlands.
In contrast to the domestic increase, world coffee prices on the London and New York exchanges simultaneously decreased. On the London exchange, the price of Robusta coffee for May 2025 delivery decreased to 5,437 USD/ton, the July delivery decreased to 5,443 USD/ton, and the November delivery decreased to only 5,324 USD/ton.
The decrease ranged from 123 to 154 USD/ton, reflecting the adjustment sentiment after a series of hot increases in previous days.
Similarly, the New York floor also recorded a sharp drop in Arabica coffee prices from 5.10 to 6.55 cents/lb. The May 2025 contract was only 392 cents/lb, and the December contract was 372.30 cents/lb.
Factors such as adverse weather in Brazil, expectations of lower inflation and profit-taking by investors have caused international coffee prices to fluctuate strongly.
Besides coffee, the domestic pepper market is equally exciting as pepper prices increased by 3,000 VND/kg in all key regions.
Currently, the purchase price in Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria - Vung Tau is fluctuating around 159,000 VND/kg. Particularly in Dak Lak and Dak Nong, pepper prices are slightly higher, reaching 160,000 VND/kg - the highest level since the beginning of the year.
Supply shortages continue to be a key factor driving up pepper prices. Despite being in the peak harvest season, farmers in the Central Highlands provinces are still hoarding goods in anticipation of better prices, limiting pepper sales. Since the beginning of the year, pepper prices have increased by more than 68% compared to the same period in 2024 – a remarkable increase in the context of economic and climate fluctuations.
In the world market, pepper prices remained stable at a high level but there were slight adjustments in some countries. Indonesia recorded Lampung black pepper prices falling to 7,229 USD/ton, Muntok white pepper falling to 10,052 USD/ton.
Malaysia kept the price unchanged at $9,900/ton for black pepper and $12,400/ton for white pepper. Brazil also maintained the price at $7,000/ton after the previous price increase.
Vietnam’s pepper exports continue to record high prices, demonstrating its strong competitiveness in the international market. Currently, the export price of 500 g/l black pepper is at 7,100 USD/ton, 550 g/l at 7,300 USD/ton. White pepper is at 10,100 USD/ton – higher than many competitors in the region.
With the current growth momentum, many experts believe that the coffee and pepper markets will continue to maintain a positive trend in the coming time, especially when weather, supply and demand factors are still favorable for growers.
