According to a warning issued by the Information Security Department on October 14, many people living in Australia have recently received emails and calls from bad guys, impersonating Medicare staff - the Global Health Care Insurance Center in Australia, with the purpose of enticing them to provide information and pay fees in order to appropriate their assets.

Regarding the method, the subject often proactively approaches via email or phone to inform the victim that the health insurance card is about to expire and asks to access the attached link to register for a new card.

After clicking on the link, the victim is redirected to a fake website with an interface and logo similar to the official portal. Here, the victim is asked to fill in personal information, then receives a list of fees to pay with a QR code attached for payment.

In addition to appropriating the fees transferred by the victim, the subject also used the victim's information to impersonate the identity, register to use other services of the health care center with the purpose of further appropriating compensation and subsidy fees...

Noting that domestic users also need to be vigilant against the above-mentioned fraudulent appropriation of assets, the Information Security Department recommends that people carefully verify the email address and phone number received; do not access strange links; do not provide personal information as well as do not follow the instructions of the subjects.
