World coffee prices increased slightly by 20 USD/ton for robusta, while arabica coffee prices adjusted slightly.
Domestic coffee prices today, March 14, increased by VND500/kg, currently trading at VND131,500 - 133,500/kg. Some farmers are said to still be holding about 30-40% of their goods in stock waiting for prices to increase. Vietnam's coffee export prices have increased sharply again in the first months of 2025 due to limited supply.
Robusta coffee prices rose, supported by slow sales by farmers and forecasts for lower output in Vietnam. Arabica coffee prices fell to a 1-1/2-week low after Brazil’s Somar Meteorologia forecast widespread scattered rains next week in Minas Gerais, Brazil’s largest arabica-producing region, easing concerns about drought.
Vietnam’s coffee output in the current crop year is expected to be lower than last year due to adverse weather, exacerbating a supply shortage and sending global coffee prices soaring, according to Bloomberg . Vietnam’s output, the world’s largest producer of robusta coffee, is forecast to reach 26.5 million bags in the 2024-2025 crop year, a representative of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa) said. This figure is lower than the estimate in December 2024 and down from 27 million bags in the 2023-2024 crop year.
Not only in Vietnam, global supply is also tightening due to harvest problems in other key producing countries such as Brazil, causing robusta futures prices in London to increase by nearly 70% over the past year.
New information on the German coffee market, the German Coffee Association (Deutscher Kaffeeverband) said, the growth trend of certified coffee increased the most, with coffee with sustainable certifications such as Organic, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, or 4C increasing by 8.6% in 2024.
According to analysts, this increase in demand may stem from increased consumer awareness of ethical coffee origins, environmental sustainability or social responsibility, as well as compliance with upcoming EUDR regulations. Multinational coffee roasters have been actively promoting sustainable sourcing and continue to push this agenda, which is likely to contribute to the growth in this segment, while ensuring the right price point to maintain responsible sourcing policies and commitment to sustainability in the coffee industry.

With the current export growth rate, it is forecasted that by 2025, Vietnam's coffee exports could reach over 6 billion USD. According to the orientation to 2030, Vietnam aims to expand 11,000 hectares of specialty coffee, with an output of 15,000 tons/year.
The growth trend of certified coffee has been strong and has been on the rise in recent years. Popular certifications such as Fair Trade, Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and UTZ have been gaining traction among consumers and producers alike. Here are some of the factors driving this trend:
Consumers are increasingly focused on choosing products that have a positive impact on the environment and communities. Certified organic or Fair Trade coffee is popular because it ensures that the product is grown without the use of harmful chemicals and also benefits the farmers.
Meanwhile, major coffee companies like Starbucks, Nestlé, and many others are committing to using coffee with sustainable certifications like Fair Trade, Organic, or Rainforest Alliance. This not only enhances brand reputation but also meets the needs of consumers who demand socially responsible and environmentally friendly products.
Coffee producers and farmers are increasingly turning to sustainable farming methods to receive these certifications, which not only help them increase the value of their products but also ensure long-term stability in the coffee industry.
In terms of growth in the specialty coffee market, specialty coffee is often associated with high-quality production methods and may come with certifications such as Organic or Fair Trade. Specialty coffee is becoming a popular consumption trend, especially in developed markets such as North America and Europe.
Sustainable certified coffee is increasingly becoming part of the global consumer trend towards green, environmentally friendly and community-supportive products.
Overall, certified coffee not only contributes to environmental protection and the development of farming communities, but also meets the growing consumer demand for responsible and high-quality products.
